I think that's the way I expected the question to be asked by the Hoots the Scoop account. :) :D

And to answer - bigger bins or extra bins available at lunch time.

Oh Hoots the Scoop, I feel sorry for you. I often get misconstrued on here too and get it in the neck. We know you didn't mean any malice. I agree that we need more bins but I would go one further. Any takeaway place, newsagent, etc. should be made to put a bin outside as part of their contract. In my local High Street there is one bin for six food outlets and it's not enough. So one shop = one bin or their food licence is not renewed.

Yes, but you only post using your own account so we all know it's you. We don't need names and addresses - just that it's Govangirl who's made the post. BTW, there are a number of people who have access to the Hoots the Scoop account.

The Hoots the Scoop account was created early on in the Forum and the idea was really for it to be used to generate conversation etc without I suppose identifying who raised the matter in the first place.

"Hoots the Scoop" is a local term for "what's happening, what's the new, what's the gossip etc". It is a generic account and as far as I know no-one knows who has access to it. You can PM the account for the password - come to think about it I can't remember it and I set it up!!

It's maybe better if people use it just to post a general comment but I can certainly see the use of it. I don't think it is always in the interest of the poster or the forum for people to know who started the thread.

Back to the thread - good ideas about the bins etc and the shops showing a bit more responsibility. Working in the town centre you see alot of kids dropping their litter and might I add a lot more children putting their litter in the bins. 8) Extra bins won't necessarily solve the problem if the kids don't believe it is wrong. I'm sure WC1 is highlighting the issue which is all the school can do.

The bin outside the shop is often part of the shops franchise and used for advertising, but its main reason for being there is so they can say they have done something. If it ends up full of wrappings, surely that just proves they are using too much wrapping. The bins need to be positioned where folk, old and young (but it is worse when the schools are back)finish eating not where they start. Still think, more bins and fines, but the litter fine down this way is £75 and too steep.

Sorry but I am gonna just be honest.

We dont all drop litter..

CGS eco team along with Mrs Cameron try to tackle that problem by giving people free dance tickets if they put rubbish in the bin.. I dont think that works but at least they are trying.

Also, CGS get blamed for everything.
Its not just one person its the whole school.
One person steps of the pavement going into town at lunch time and its the whole schools fault and the school is called and the people complain about it ect ect..

Basically, the point I am trying to make is that its not the Whole school. Thats all I have to say really :)

Hey Folks,

This is nothing new and sure when you were all young you did the same, not only that I can think of 9020 reasons why we should cut the kids some slack.

They are all good kids at heart and maybe now the problem has been identified how about WE the adults try to find a solution in conjunction with the Campbeltown traders.

Here is my solution, we have the kids who you all despise, they are still dropping litter, stop before you go any further and vilify me. Lots of you all have stated in previous posts the kids are the main reason why the Toon is in such a state regarding litter so don’t start.

To make things a little better I am willing to put up half the cost of a one "bin” the “bin” will be positioned where you all see fit. My question is do I have any takers to stump up for the other half or even sponsor other bins?

So you all know where I am coming from, I have a daughter in the Grammar and one starting next year and I would hate to think they are contributing to the rubbish problem within the toon, if it takes their old fella to provide a bin then so be it.

I have said in previous posts the kids in the town are great kids. If all we have to worry about is trash then am I so glad I live in my little bit of utopia.

All in all the kids here in my mind are some of the best in Scotland. All I ask is please look inward , CGS put on a great evening of entertainment for Children in need, the CGS Christmas concert is packed with talent, even the young ones at Castlehill will give a great concert.

Where else in Scotland will you get so many talented kids in such a small community, if you want clarification look at WC1’s post regarding the CGS concert; show me any where else in the Scotland let alone UK where you would get so much talent in such a small community.

Oh by the way did I say I was an incomer and I chose to live here because of this.

If any one is still reading this then the web site for the bin is http://www.wheeliebinsrus.com/about.htm they are out of Aberdeen so the money stays within Scotland . I am still up to pay half, be it a business or a private venture, at lets not forget at the end of the day our kids are our future!

Duncan R, good post.

Thought you might find this link useful:

http://www.impbins.com/cat--Pillar-Bins--PillarBins.html

Some of the lids on the bigger bins might be too heavy or high for the younger kids, so thought this style might be more suuitable. They are cheaper than some others, so perhaps it would be possible to have a few located in the town centre and others on the way back up to the school.

I think it might be worth your while going back through this thread and rereading the posts.. I dont think anyone said they despise the kids and I dont believe lots of people have blamed the kids for the state of the Toon. I still think the shops and the council should be reponsible for the purchasing and siting of the bins.. just my opinion of course... If you still feel the urge to buy a bin yourself, I for one applaud your public spirit, let us know when you get it.. As for where you should put it.. I would need to think on that.

Has anyone noticed that there are three bins like 2 metres apart at the cross in town.

Is there really any need for that?
I know the cross and the flower beds and everything need to be kept tidy but seriously, what about the rest of town.

I notice this issue was raised again last week in the Courier. Even suggesting kids should be kept in at lunch breaks to combat the problem of litter.
