What are you reading just now?

Have your say....

Really liked The Killing Hour, by Lisa Gardner, started a bit slow, but soon became unputdownable. Am now reading Piece of my Heart, by Peter Robinson, another of his Inspector Banks stories, quite a bit of time dodging between 1969 and 2006, which I tend to get annoyed with sometimes, but OK so far.

Hels wrote:I recently read the first two of the Steig Larsson "Millenium Trilogy" called "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo" and "The Girl who played with Fire" Absolutely fantastic, found myself totally engrossed in the characters and the twists and turns of the plot. The first was great, the second even better and the third, "The Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest" ...... unfortunately not released until October, but got it on pre-order already. Can't wait!

Hels I am glad you mentioned these books....I have looked at them in bookshops, picked them up and put them down again! I will definitely give them a try now!
Just finished Easy Kill by Lin Anderson. This is the first I have read, but it's the fifth book by the author. Set in Glasgow and a bit dark in bits but I would definitely read some of the other titles now.
After watching a programme about Barcelona last night, I decided to go for "The Angels Game" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon next.

Bad Things is a psychological thriller by Michael Marshall. It starts full of promise, and builds to a crescendo of all our darkest fears.

The Straw Men,The Lonely Dead and Blood of Angels is an earlier trilogy by Michael Marshall that still stays in my top ten best reads.

Chasing Darkness is the twelfth in the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series from author Robert Crais, and the storyline is as strong now as the first.A lot of these serial novels seem to wane after the first five or six,but that is not the case with Crais.
If you like American thrillers, and have not tried this author then you are missing out big time.

I must admit to not having heard of him Bill, I`ll keep a lookout. I`ve almost finished another Peter Robinson book, Friend of the Devil, after reading A Piece of my Heart last week. It`s another of his Inspector Banks stories, and has been very enjoyable as usual. The next book on my pile is Too Close to Home, by Linwood Barclay, long awaited after No Tome for Goodbye.

Finished "The Woods" by Harlan Coben and thoroughly enjoyed it.His stand alone novels are far better then his Myron Bolitar series, which I think we have agreed before.

The Linwood Barclay is fab Bill you will enjoy it. I must look out for these other authors, I have seen books by both but I haven't read anything by either of them. Hels, I ordered the 2 x Steig Larssons for my 10 days on a sunbed in October :D I also have a new Tess Gerritsen called "The Keepsake" which I will attempt to keep for the holidays.

I was very disappointed in Nelson DeMille's "The Gate House",so much so I stopped about half way through, flipped to the last chapter to see who killed who.The story just seemed to go round in the same circle.Having read 3 or 4 of his previous ,which were excellent,I will be wary of his next offering. :(

Too Close to Home by Linwood Barclay was I thought a bit contrived, and lacking in any real excitement. It was obvious from the start that Drew was not who he made out to be.

Bill, I`m sorry you didn`t care for Too Close to Home, I also had Drew figured out, but it didn`t stop me enjoying it all the same. I`ve just finished Call After Midnight, by Tess Gerritsen, one of her earlier offerings but very enjoyable, and have just started another of hers, In Their Footsteps, hope it bucks up a bit.

Just finished the new Ian Rankin 'The Complaints'. An excellent read. Good new characters and a plot that fairly clips along. I really think he has come up with a formula that will beat the Rebus series.

Well, I finished In Their Footsteps by Tess Gerritsen, and sorry to say it, but it was nowhere near as good as the other books I`ve read by her, vin fact it was a bit boring and predictable. Am now reading Echo Park by Michael Connelly.
