Reading back over these posts Bill, I`ve just realised that I read Greg Hurwitz`s You`re Next, a while ago. I`ve recently finished Grave Sight, by Charlaine Harris, it was OK, but I wouldn`t rave about it. A girl is struck by lightening as a teenager, survives, and finds that she can find where dead bodies lie, and can tell the cause of death. I`m now reading another in the same series, Grave Surprise, but only because I`d already bought and paid for it. Won`t bother with anymore.

Ags wrote:I have just finished "Gillespie and I" by Jane Harris which isn't something i would normally have picked up but it was recommended to me. The story is narrated by elderly Harriet Baxter in London as she relates the story of her friendship with budding artist Ned Gillespie in Glasgow at the time of The Great Exhibition. The story is filled with tragedy, a court case, mystery and deception and I loved it. Best book of the year so far!!

I read this and made it our book club's choice for October on your recommendation Ags. Definitely my book of the year too!!!!!! Fabulous - I was really drawn into the twists and turns. I have now started her first book, The Observations so thank you for that. :D

Thanks Govangirl, glad you enjoyed it! Haven't told the girls yet but it's definitely my choice for the next bookgroup too and even though I have read it, I will happily read it again. I started the first book by Jane Harris the other day,but didn't fit much reading in over the weekend! :D "The observationists" looks like it may be as good as "Gillespie and I".
Over the last few weeks I have managed to get through the latest Lee Child (loved it), "The woman he loved before" by Dorothy Koomson, another brilliant read from her, dark and captivating but definitely more for the ladies and Fallen by Karin Slaughter, again, up to her usual standard though I was slightly confused until I got used to all the different characters at the beginning.

I love Karin Slaughter`s books, but I too found this one a mite confusing to begin with, although things did get clearer. Am reading Edge, by Jeffrey Deaver at the moment, it took a bit of getting into, but loving it now. Just finished Bloodstream, by Tess Gerritson, after I started it, I realised I`d read it before, but couldn`t remember it all, so enjoyed reading it again. I`m debating with myself on whether to give Martina Cole a try, never read anything by her, but folk on another forum are trying to discourage me, saying she`s not very good, I may still buy one, just to see.

John Grisham's latest"The Litigators"though an enjoyable read is nowhere near as gripping as his earlier books. He has gone for more of a light hearted approach with more humour. As for the ending, you can see it coming well before the end.

I`ve never been a Grisham fan. I`m just starting on The People Next Door, by Christopher Ransom. If it`s as good as The Birthing House, I know I`ll enjoy it.

"Now you see her" from James Patterson was given to me by my next door neighbour. The only good thing I can say about it is I did not have to pay for it.I sped read it in under two hours.Even then I had put it down twice as not worth reading, but went back to see what ending he came up with.

I didn`t really enjoy "The People Next Door" as much as I thought I would. I`m now reading a book I got as a freebie, Crimson China, by Betsy Tobin, set around the tragedy of the Chinese cocklepickers in Morecambe Bay in 2004. It`s not really my kind of book, and to be honest, the first half didn`t really do much for me, but it`s picking up now, and I`m starting to enjoy it.

"Rizzo's War"is the debut novel from American Lou Manfredo, and what an absolute terrific read it is.Sgt. Joe Rizzo is a veteran of the NYPD,based in the local precinct of Brensonhurst in Brooklyn. When assigned to find the runaway daughter of the local council man, Joe realises this is a make or break assignment. He has to realise the years of experience to navigate the politics within the NYPD to ensure his and his new partner's future.

No hesitation in recommending this to you numberplease. My only regret is I did not keep it for the flight to Tenerife.

Thanks Bill, I`ll l,ook out for that one. I really enjoyed Crimson China in the end, but I don`t think it`d be your cup of tea Bill. At the moment, I`m reading The Black House, by Peter May. Det.Insp. Fin McCleod goes back to his birthplace on the Isle of Lewis to help solve a grisly murder.
