"Wicked Prey" is the 20th in the "Prey" series from John Sandford, and is a thrilling story from the first page to the last.As usual the story centers around Lucas Davenport of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

"Three Shirt Deal" by Stephen J.Cannell is the first I have read in the Shane Scully series, and an excellent read .I will certainly be looking out for the previous titles in the series.
Shane Scully is a detective in the L.A.P.D. who in a lot of ways reminds me of the Harry Bosch character in the Michael Connelly books.

James Patterson's "Private",co-written with Maxine Paetro, brings us the new character former U.S.marine Jack Morgan. This has all the hallmarks of the beginning of a new series.I certainly will be in no rush to read the possible follow ups.
The "Private" of the title is a private investigation firm run by Morgan whose clients are the fabulously rich of L.A.

I`ve just started Dan Brown`s The Lost Synmbol. Having enjoyed his previous 4 books very much, I have the same high hopes for this one, but it`s not looking like it so far.
I`ve just finished Fear the Worst, by Linwood Barclay. It was OKaaay, but not quite as good as his previous 2 books, but that`s only my opinion.

Finished C J Sansom's "Heartstone" at the weekend and it more than lived up to my high expectations of this author. It's a great story with lots of plot twists and turns and a nail-biting climax in the sinking of the Mary Rose. Matthew Shardlake comes over as a very vulnerable man as well as a determined sleuth. His assistant Jack Barak at times seems more like the master than the servant. Richard Rich makes another appearance as Shardlake's would-be nemesis. If you've not tried Sansom before, give this one a try.

I`ve read all 4 of the other Shardlake books, and LOVED them! Can`t wait for this one to go paperback, Waterstones and Smiths say there isn`t a date for it as yet. I`ve converted my daughter to them, but failed with a friend, however, come to think of it, they MIGHT just suit another friend of mine. I may send her Dissolution and see what she thinks.

"Donkey Punch" by Scottish author Ray Banks is nothing what so ever to do with the film of the same name.I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this book but was hooked from the very first pages. The story is about Cal, who used to be a PI but is now a caretaker of a boxing club in a run down area of Manchester. He gets given the job of chaperoning one of the young boxers on a trip to LA. where things don't go according to plan.

I have James Patterson's "The Murder of King Tut" for the flight on Wednesday, probably finish it before we land.

Dan Brown`s The Lost Symbol wasn`t bad, but I think that since reading his other 4 books quite a while ago, my enthusiasm has waned somewhat, maybe I`ve grown up!
For the attention of Ags, I`ve just read the first of the Jack Reacher stories, Killing Floor, after already having read a few of the others. My, didn`t he just have a killing time?
Am just about to start Losing You, by Nicci French, a friend in Scotland has converted me to her.

Did you enjoy it numberplease? I just love Jack Reacher :D I have been really struggling with books for the last few weeks which is very unlike me. Our next book group book is "The Other Hand" by Chris Cleave which I read last year and really enjoyed. Hopefully re-reading that will get me back into the swing again and if it doesn't, its less than three weeks to the holidays, and lying by the pool in glorious sunshine (I hope) will certainly do the trick. I have a Lisa Gardner for the holidays and there is a new Linwood Barclay out in hardback which i will hopefully pick up at the airport in the soft cover that they do there. I also have "After the fire" by Karen Campbell another Scottish crime writer. Has anybody read anything of hers? This is her second book.

Yes Ags, I did really enjoy the book, but am thankful that Reacher hasn`t turned into a full blown killer. I picture him ads looking a bit like Peter Schmeikle(sp). I was looking down the list in the book cover, I`ve read 9 Reacher books now, thank you for putting me on to them Ags.
I haven`t heard of Karen Campbell, I`ll look out for her when I`m on my next book hunt.
At the momenht I`m enjoying Losing You, by Nicci French, I`m also a Lisa Gardner fan as well.

Losing You was really rather good. I`ve just started Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane, an author I haven`t come across before. I t was written in 2003, but is set in 1954, and I have to keep reminding myself that they didn`t have this, that or the other in 1954. Hopefully it will liven up, it`s slow going at the moment.

I read one of his books Numberplease and I have just had to go and have a good old prowl to find it and remind me of the title. It was "Mystic River" which was made into a film many moons ago. It starred Sean Penn and I think Kevin Bacon :?:
I'm sure I enjoyed the book so hopefully yours will pick up. Infact, was Shutter Island not a movie too? Off to Google!!

Yes Ags, fortunately it DID pick up, and I enjoyed it, but didn`t expect the ewnding at all! I`ve since read another Nicci French book, Land of the Living, OK, but not quite as good as Losing You. I`m now reading, stupidly or not, another book by one of my favourite British authors, Peter Robinson, Aftermath. I say stupidly because I`m also watching the TV adaptation on ITV. I already had the book in my pile before I realised it was going on TV, but don`t want it to go to waste, so I suppose the bright thing to do would be not to watch the TV version, but then I`m obviously not bright enough! I`m only on page 84, but the TV version is already a bit different.
