Aqualibrium to host Argyll & Bute Championhsips
The 2nd Annual Argyll and Bute Swimming Championships will take place in Aqualibrium on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th September. Swimmers from clubs across Argyll including Oban, Helensburgh and Islay will travel to Campbeltown to compete in the two day event organised by Argyll & Bute Council.
This is the first time this event will be held in Campbeltown and Aqualibrium will be an excellent venue for competitive swimming competition with its 25 metre, 6 lane competition pool, complete with electronic timekeeping equipment. The warm up is scheduled for 12 with competition getting underway at 12:30pm on the Saturday. The second session will commence at 4:30pm, followed by the final session on Sunday morning with a 10am start.
Local club swimmers from Kintyre ASC have been busy training in the pool with extra coaching sessions organised throughout the summer in preparation for the championships in our home pool. These championships are the start of a busy period for the club with the area trials for the Scottish Schools championships held in October in Helensburgh followed by the clubs annual championships held in Aqualibrium in November.
The 1st Argyll & Bute Swimming Championships were held in September last year at the Riverside Centre in Dunoon where over 100 swimmers competed in events over two days. Next year the event is expected to take place in Helensburgh Pool and return to Campbeltown in 2013.
