Tom B wrote:nice article on the back of yesterday's Herald Sports section about a lady who starting running again after discovering JS - changed her life, she said! ....well done you JogScotlanders!

thanks for sharing this Tom ...just read the article , inspiring indeed :D

Quote from article :

"I remember my first night," she says, smiling at the memory. "They asked which of us thought we could run a mile and I thought 'no way' so they put me into an easier group, but after a while you get to that mile and it kind of clicks into place. Next thing you know you are at two miles, three miles, four miles and suddenly you've got an incentive."

Within weeks, she was on the starting line of her first 10k and reassuring herself that she could haul herself around the course. Doing so without slowing to a jog would be a small victory, and breaching the hour barrier a huge success. "When I came over the line and saw it was 59 minutes, my hands shot up into the air," she says. "I might not have won the race but I felt like I had because I'd achieved my goal"

This 50 year old woman is now ...
Currently the holder of two world records in her age category – outdoor 10k and 3k indoor – and a competitor in last weekend's BUPA Great Edinburgh Cross-Country, the mother-of-five developed from being a recreational runner taking part in her first 10k to completing a sub 1hr 30min half-marathon in just a year.

"A bit windy" it was, but that didnt stop the hardy troopers, Lightning and Superstar making it a second visit so now secured as regulars with Ali at the helm this week we fought off wind and hail to get in our run to Oatfield area.

Supreme effort this week again - well done.

Yesterday was certainly tough and hopefully the worst conditions we will ever run in! I am quite sure none of us got the distance in the 70 minutes that we had hoped to but it was extremely hard going.....especially when you are running in the wrong shoes  !!!
The road back in from The Moy was hilarious with the wind FINALLY on our backs. My legs couldn't go as fast as the wind wanted them to go

As Saturday Jogleader for the half training today I should probably have posted my proposed route a few days ago but since we had a last minute change due to work commitments and slippy roads, I guess it didn't really matter.
Well done to all 11 runners this morning and a big welcome to Wee Norz on her first Saturday morning jaunt! A statement from her (okay a facebook post) said she was very pleased with herself and heading to McIlcheres for a danish as no big run is complete without one :D . There were various distances clocked in our allocated time, from just under 7 miles and up as we ran towards Machrihanish and back. What a lovely morning but then anything would have been a bonus after last week but it was just glorious.
Remember folks because of some of us girls doing the Advanced Jogleader training in Oban next Saturday, next week is a shorter run on Friday at 5pm.
Also for the Monday Group (all abilities), Monday this week is a shorter run with a sauna/steam room to follow.

Good post Ags .....what a lovely crisp morning for our run except for the odd icy patches on route but it would have been worse on the Moss . Thanks for leading this morning and well done to the neebies :)

Fiona28 you were like a whippet on Saturday , one minute I saw you on way back then you 'disappeared 'on the Machrihanish stretch , asked the girls if you had caught a lift on way back you were that fast :) lol Good running from all :D

Really enjoyed the Advanced Leaders Course held in Oban this morning organised by Willie Young and his team through Argyll & Bute Coach Champions .
The course was very informative and was introduced to help Jog Leaders build on their experience and knowledge and to develop their group leadership skills further. It was great to share experiences with other JL from Islay, Oban and Lochgilphead and personal trainer Neil from Aberdeen . He had a wealth of info to share with us .

So be prepared Jog Scotlanders next week !!!

Ps Thanks Peter for getting us home early :D

Totally agree, great to get away in amongst likeminded people, I did the Triathlon Coaching over the two days, was great to sit in the company of 2 Ironmen 8) and then be able to coach them and help them get their swimming faster!!!!!

Thoroughly refreshed and full of new ideas, bursting at the seams and ready to go, biggest discovery was you do not have to be superfit to do this Triathlon thingybobber, so watch this space :D

Gail are you moving me out and Neil in ???
