Congratulations to the Hippodrome in Bo'ness
On Sunday 11th March, the Hippodrome Cinema in Bo'ness will celebrate its hundredth birthday and despite pipping us to the post of oldest cinema in Scotland we send them our congratulations on this great achievement. The day of glory for the Wee Pictures is fast approaching too, and we invite everyone to visit our website where our Countdown Clock is ticking the seconds away till that moment next year on 26th May when The Picture House too will reach its Centenary.

We have also launched a new Facebook page, so please sign up and follow developments. You can even watch trailers of the current films and those booked to come soon. 'The Muppets' are coming during the first week of the holidays, and continuing our Oscar season here in Campbeltown the next First Monday will be 'The Artist'. Of course, the Wee Pictures was doing a roaring trade at the time of the silent movies which is the setting for 'The Artist'. The Talkies arrived in Campbeltown in July 1931 when the first film was 'The Desert Song'. The Campbeltown Courier reported that 'the new innovation was a novel and intriguing entertainment'. Adding an interesting further comment, 'it was pleasing to note that Campbeltown audiences, which were inclined to be rather noisy at the silent shows, were completely silent'!

Prize Bingo raises more funds for Digital Projection Equipment
It was Eyes Down instead of eyes on the screen for The Picture House on Thursday 1st March in the Argyll Bowling Club. The efforts of the local supporters group to help raise funds for the new digital projection equipment were rewarded by the grand total of £573.50 taken on the night. Many thanks must be given to the huge generosity of the businesses and shops in the town who donated a wealth of exciting prizes for the bingo players. The Directors of the Community Business are extremely grateful for this continuing support. They would also like to thank Isabel and Liz, who ran the show, and those who handed out the prizes so efficiently for their help.

The Digital Projection fund has also been swelled by two other recent donations: one from The Balure Trust and one from The Rotary Club of Campbeltown. It is heartwarming to see this support from such varied sources in Kintyre. This enforces to external funders that the whole community sees the importance of maintaining this historic and important community asset. Once again the Directors are extremely grateful for this tangible support.
