Hi Folks,

Re: our walk to Gigha on Saturday 4th May next.

We have been in touch with the organisers of the "Gigha Challenge" on that date. For those who are unaware of this, the format is to walk, run or cycle from the hotel to the North of the island and back to the hotel, then to the South and back - a total of approx. 11 miles. We think our group should walk just to the North and back which is approx. 6 miles.

The cost per person for entry into the 11 miler is £6.00 adult, and £3.00 child. We suggested to the organisers that as we only anticipate doing the 6 miler, we pay a group donation to their cause - to which they agreed!

For anyone wanting to do the "Full Challenge" an application form will be available on the ferry, on the day, to be filled in on the journey over to Gigha.

The walkers will be the first to go at 11 a.m., so we will need to be catching the 10 a.m. ferry, therefore meet at the Lorne & Lowland Church car park at 9.15 to arrange transport to Tayinloan.

Please RSVP soonest so we can get an idea of how many are participating, and try to get a group booking for the ferry.

All best,

John and Marion

Hi Folks,

In view of the uncertainty of facilities on the Island, and the number of people that might be there, it is strongly recommended that you bring along a packed lunch for Saturday, 4th May.

Hoping for good weather,

Hello Walkers,

The walk for 1st June is Auchenhoen - a circular walk - to be led by Ian Teesdale/Peter Armour.

Meet as usual at 11.00 in Lorne and Lowland church car park. Arrange transport to Auchenhoen, and park there. Walk down the road for several hundred yards, then take a path uphill on the right for about half a mile. Bear right (west) over grassy hills down to near the west-running fence, and continue west over difficult terrain to reach Balnabraid ruins. From there, follow good stony path north, and eventually cast back to the Learside road. Thence shortly back south, south along the road to the cars. This is an adaptation of Walk No.8 in Angus Martin's Sixteen Walks in South Kintyre.

Please bring walking boots, waterproofs, packed lunch, and sticks if you feel you may need them.

Regards,

John and Marion

The walk for 6th July, 2013 is from Ballygroggan to Amod, and is being led by Sheila Reid and Moira MacDougall.

Meet at the Lorne and Lowland Church at 9.30 for car pooling to Ballygroggan.

The walk is approx. 12 miles - first four to Innean's fairly straightforward but a little boggy; next two quite steep and rough; last six miles on farm/forest road.

Please bring lunch, waterproofs, sticks. Sturdy footwear essential!

Those not wishing to do the rough part could do Innean's and back to Ballygroggan.

Could interested parties please call Sheila at 01586-554598 for a number count for car pooling.

All best,

John and Marion

Hi All,

The Lorne and Lowland Church Walk on September 7th is from Glen Kerran (opposite Brecklate) to Kilchatten Burial Ground, on to a standing stone at Scarpell Hill, and possibly one other location depending on how overgrown the route may be, or not! This is a comparatively short walk (approx. 4 miles) and will be led by Archie Reid.

Meet as usual in the Church car park and arrange transport ready to leave by 11 a.m.. We will meet Archie and the Southend folk at Glen Kerran road end.

Please bring boots, waterproofs, walking sticks and packed lunch.

Hope it's a good day, weatherwise!

Regards,

John and Marion

Hello Everybody,

Just a reminder to let you know that Archie Reid is planning to do last week's cancelled walk tomorrow (14th September), weather permitting.

Arrangements the same as for last week - meeting at Church car park, arrange transport, and ready to leave by 11 a.m.. Meet Archie and Southend folk at Glen Kerran road end.

Take boots, waterproofs, walking sticks and packed lunch.

We won't be on the walk this time, but hope the weather is good, and you all enjoy this really nice walk.

Hi Folks,

Kathleen McGougan is unable to lead the walk on 5th October, and we have therefore swapped this with the November walk.

The walk will now be Clachan shore walk, to be led by Peter Armour.

Meet at Lorne and Lowland Church car park at 11 a.m., bring lunch, boots, waterproofs. Arrange transport, travel to Clachan village, and park near the school.

This is a circular route, 4-5 miles, where we will be walking on road, up a gradient to Loup House, and continue back along the shore, where we will stop for lunch, and then return to the vehicles. Please be prepared for muddy/boggy in places along the shore.

All best,

Hello Walkers,

Kathleen McGougan is unable to do the walk from Ballymenach, via Greenland to Balegreggan Road, this month, so instead John Barton will lead a walk from the Snipefield Call Centre to Greenland, via Auchalochy and Loch Ruan, then return. Because there will be less daylight, we will meet at the church at 10.30.

The walk, with interesting and beautiful views, will take approximately 4½ - 5 hours. There are a couple of fences to climb, and gates that cannot be opened. Also some boggy patches.

Please bring wet weather gear, packed lunch, walking sticks/poles, sturdy waterproof walking boots (or Wellies if you feel that might be more sensible).

Regards,

John and Marion

Hi there,

Are the walks open to everyone? We live in Edinburgh but have a cottage in Grogport and will be around on the dates of both the December and January walks.

Thanks,
Aileen

Hello Everybody,

Shirley Lovegrove is unable to lead the walk on December 7th, at Muasdale, so John Barton has said he will lead it.

Meet at the Lorne and Lowland church car park at 11.00, arrange transport to Muasdale. There is some parking space by the bus stop, and possibly behind the shop.

This is a short circular walk, approx. 2-3 miles, on good forest track, with the last bit along the beach. We can extend the walk by taking the forest track we took with Ian last year - this can be decided at the time by the walkers.

Please bring lunch, waterproofs, sturdy footwear, sticks optional.

Hello Walkers,

The first walk of the New Year is Westport to Macrihanish, on 4th January. Transport and lunch are flexible, people may prefer to take cars and leave at either end of the walk, or use the buses. For those using the buses, meet at the stands for the 11.30 Glasgow bus. The return bus times from Macrihanish are 1.30, 3.30 and 4.30.

Packed lunch is optional, some people may prefer to eat at Macrihanish or just go straight home.

Please wrap up well and use suitable footwear for beach walking, take waterproofs, walking sticks if you feel you may need them.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2014.

Hi Folks,

Owing to the very high tide forecast for tomorrow, at around midday, it will cover the beach, making our intended walk impossible to do. We will therefore meet in the Lorne and Lowe Church car park at the usual time (11.00), arrange transport, go to the Call Centre and walk to Greenland, as an alternative.

Please use suitable footwear, bring lunch and waterproofs, and sticks (optional).

See you tomorrow,

All best,

John and Marion
