I was thinking about the fish above the shop when I made that post. I remember Nessie as well. The other thing here is that when that shop was Thomson's, Borthwicks shop was next door, and when Thomsons closed, the Bank wanted to expand into the unit that was Borthwicks, and that was when they took the old fish shop. The layout of the shop was exactly the opposite way round from next door.

I remember leaving the keys in the front door ALWAYS!
I remember putting a sixpence in the slot to watch TV (the original pay per view!)
I remember buying cigarettes for my father (Capstan Full Strength unfiltered!)
I remember listening to 78 RPM records on the gramophone with the huge copper horn on the top!
I remember the local Bobbies’ giving me a clip around the head if I was out late and threatening to tell my mother!
I remember neighbours who cared and looked out for each other.
I remember ration cards and my mother asking for bones (for a dog we did not have) to make the soup!
I remember being so poor, we ate boiled cauliflower with melted cheese for dinner!
I remember my father eating "the dripping" from the meat, on a piece of bread!

What memory’s!!!!!

Charles.

Hello Charles,
I also remember pay to view TV in the 60s and 70s, but it was two shilling pieces that we put in, for 2 hours viewing.
Also remember ration books, the only sweets we could buy without coupons (aka points)were lollipops. We used to say are lollipops on points? And the answer was no, they`re on sticks!
And, even though I wouldn`t touch it with a barge pole, bread and dripping was a popular supper snack in our house.

Good call Shiek,

I remember the look on a red haired persons face when asked if they wanted salt and sauce on their supper on the aforementioned chip shop on Dalry road.

I remember the Sheik navigating me through the Far East of the country.

I remember the look on our mutual friends face when red knocked her door with his 21st invitation, as we hid in the close!

I remember she had a gorgeous face...... and still has !

Ah the memories.

I remember this day for those who gave their lives in foreign lands, so that we might be free.

I remember my Uncle John's name on the Campbeltown War Memorial.

I remember being told he was only a teenager when he was killed at Salonika.

I remember his brother,my Father, being one of the lucky ones to escape from St.Valery.

Peter McKinlay lived over John Street, and he never actually painted the grass blue. The story was that he had heard of Kentucky blue grass, thinking it was blue ,tried to find where he could get some....ALLEGEDLY
