Excellent GG  I had a course in Glasgow on Friday so managed a wee run round Waterstones on Thursday night when I arrived. I got the new Lee Child and intended to keep it for the holidays but needless to say Jack Reacher catapulted to the top of the "to read" pile. I also picked up "Pretty little things" by Jilliane Hoffman. She hasn't had anything published for a few years but I have enjoyed her previous titles. I have been lent the latest Peter Temple tale and a carrier bag full of Michael Connolly's so guess how I am spending the Easter break.....I hope!!

"61 hours"is the 14th in the Jack Reacher series. If the books were rated in a league table, this offering would be second from bottom, with only "Nothing to lose"keeping it from bottom spot.

The only good thing from this story is,I now know never to go to South Dakota in the winter. If every reference to the weather conditions were removed you would be left with a novelette.

Aw, don`t say that Bill, I was looking forward to buying it very soon. At the moment I`m reading Don`t Look Twice, by Andrew Gross, only just started it, but I usually enjoy his offerings, including his collaborations with James Patterson. Just finished Malicious Intent, by Kathryn Fox, can recommend it.

Robert Crais's latest addition to the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series "First Rule" sees Pike take centre stage. The first rule of the title is don't make Joe Pike mad.So when an East European crime lord kills Joe's former friend and family there is only one inevitable outcome.
With Elvis Cole relegated to the sidelines the usual smart wisecracks are at a minimum.

Wishing I had to keep it for the plane Friday.

Just finished Dissolution, by C.J.Sansom. It`s the first in a set of four so far, but I`ve read them all in the wrong order, not that it really matters, they`re all very good, give a great insight into life in the 1500s. Am now reading A Necessary End, an earlier offering by Peter Robinson, an Inspector Banks story, I quite like them.

I've now gone through nine Rebus books and need to give it a rest for a while. I read 'Glasgow Kiss' which was good (it even has a bit where they go to Kintyre) but don't agree with the blurb on the back - she is no Rankin! I've just finished the best book I've read in a long while: 'A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian' by Marina Lewycka ( someone in Campbeltown said last week it was by Monica Lewinsky and I can't get it out of my head now!). We did it for our bookclub and it was brilliant. Ags has let me borrow 'The Way Things Look to Me' by Roopa Farooki which I'm really, really enjoying and can't put down. The writing is beautiful and there are lots of insights into family angst, Asperger's Syndrome and life in general.

Am now reading another Peter Robinson Inspector Banks book, Wednesday`s Child. I`ve only just started it, but it promises to be very good.

I agree with you about "Nothing to lose" Bill but I enjoyed 61 hours! Look forward to the follow up!!! I have a pile of books to read at the moment but Harlan Coben's "Caught" has jumped to the top of the pile. It is up to his usual standards so far.

Having read and enjoyed 3 books by Peter Robinson one after the other, finishing with In A Dry Season, I moved on to Evidence, by Jonathan Kellerman, enjoyable as usual, then 8th Confession, by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro, another in the Lindsey Boxer series, which I love. I`m now into my second book by Beverley Barton, Beg to Die, which promises to be as good as the last one that I read by her.

Numberplease, where do you find the time to do your housework and make your man's tea? I hope you're not neglecting his needs! How many books do you get through in a week?

  GG, if you knew me well you`d know that housework isn`t always a priority around here!  And HIS needs have always been taken care of, he makes sure of that! As to how many books a week, only 2, occasionally 3 per week, usually. I read a few pages first thing before my grandson arrives, a few more in the afternoon after he`s gone home, and a couple of chapters before I go to bed. I get through more when on holiday because I read in bed in the caravan and also whilst having breakfast (I know, atrociously bad mannered, that`s me!).

Some of it was hard going, but I was determined to finish it, seeing as I gave up the first time around, in my teens! I won`t pretend to have really ENJOYED it, but it was interesting in parts.
I`m just coming to the end of Beg to Die, and it`s been very good, I can heartily recommend Beverley Barton as an author.

Three books a week Numberplease?? You lucky lady :D . I have just finished the 9th Lindsay Boxer book. Had to look it out to get the title "9th Judgement" - it wasnt that memorable really and not nearly as good as the earlier books in the series. I have also just finished "Small wars" by Sadie Jones reviewed as "outstanding", "compelling", "even better than her amazing first novel". It is set in Cyprus with the British Army defending the colony against Cypriots battling for union with Greece. I only bought it because we have enjoyed some really nice holidays in Cyprus  . Really disappointing considering the reviews though I persevered to the end. Hoping to finish my Harlan Coben by the end of the week and will report back.
