What are you reading just now?

Have your say....

Numberplease, I know you mentioned 'When will there be good news?' earlier. I don't usually read this genre but a lot of people were recommending it and it nearly got into our Book Group choice (we're doing Rankin this month). I've got a third of the way through it and maybe it's my menopausal brain but I'm just confused between all the characters and stories and not really getting into it. Is it going to get better? :?

And Ags, that is going to be your book of the year, the Foer one. It is incredible.

We've just got tickets for the Frankie Boyle tour which is coming to Margate next year :D and my son has given me his autobiography 'My Shit Life So Far' to read. I'm going up to Glasgow next weekend and have decided it will be my Easyjet reading material. My son says I'll be shocked by it :<>

Govangirl, I`m afraid I`m in complete agreement about When Will There be Good News?, I persevered with it to the end, but no, I don`t think it really got any better. I`m absolutely loving Dark Fire, nearly finished it now.

I meant Frankie Boyle btw, not my son. Don't go contacting Social Services

Mr Clarinet by Nick Stone is the first in the Max Mingus thriller series, and is excellent.
Max Mingus is ex Miami homicide detective,ex P.I.and ex con.
The story is centered in Haiti as Max tries to find the kidnapped grandson of Gustav Carver.

You keep coming up with all these writers I`ve never heard of Bill, I`m going to have to make a list.
At the moment I`m reading Cross Country, by James Patterson, one of the Alex Cross stories. Very good so far.

Lobsters on the Agenda by Naomi Mitchison.A novel set in the 1950's in a small West Highland fishing village, examining various conflicts of interests and loyalty in the course of a week. Could that village strongly resemble Carradale? An excellent read.

After reading"Cross Country" on the flight to Tenerife, and being very disappointed,I was a bit wary on reading "Run for your Life". This is co written by Patterson and Michael Ledwidge, and a big improvement,as long as you skip the chapters about his home life (7 kids all down with the flu).As with all Patterson novels it takes all of 4 hours to complete.

Just finished Lee Child's latest Jack Reacher adventure thriller,"Gone Tomorrow"and thankfully it was miles better than his last offering"Nothing to Lose".Though still not anywhere as good as his earlier books.

I enjoyed Cross Country, but as you say Bill, it wasn`t as good as previous offerings. I`ve just finished Paul O`Grady`s book, At My Mother`s Knee, and Other Low Joints, loved it, it gave me a few laughs, there are also some sad bits, but I enjoyed it, but then I love Paul O`Grady. I`ve just started on Presumed Guilty, by Tess Gerritsen.

I have become addicted to the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. Great reading. I bought all the books.

Hi Myself, after being recommended to the Lee Child books by Ags, for which I`m very grateful Ags, I`ve now read 4 Jack Reacher stories, and will definitely be reading more.

"Shadows still Remain" by Peter DeJonge is an excellent read.In a genre already at saturation point, this is a stand out addition.
On the cover there is a sticker saying,"as good as James Patterson or your money back. Not only is it as good as ,but INMHO it is better by far.
If you think you recognise the name Peter DeJonge,he co-wrote "The Beach House"and "Beach Road" with James Patterson.

Presumed Guilty was okaaay, but a bit tame compared to Tess Gerritson`s more recent books. I`m now reading Silent Killer by Beverley Barton, never read her stuff before, it`s not bad so far.

"Innocence"by David Hosp is a legal thriller set in Boston Massachusetts. The central characters are defence attorney Scott Finn ,and his investigator,ex Boston PD detective Tom Kozlowski.Have to look for his three previous novels, and hope they are as enjoyable as this one.
