Local announcements/obituaries.

Postby Raphael09 » Wed Nov 25, 2009 4:22 pm

I am not in or from the area, but do have a friend that I lost touch with a long time ago. He told me he was from from somewhere around here but for the life of me, I can't remember where. For his privacy, I'll be quite vague, but I do remember he did have an illness. I am not sure how he got on with it.
Neither I nor he live in the same area from when we knew each other down South. Since I have not heard from him in a while, and thinking about the illness he once had, I did wonder if maybe the worst had happened.

I wonder if any persons in this forum might be able to point me in the right direction to find-out where to learn of bereavements/deaths in the Kintyre/Campbelltown/Argyll area within the last 11 years [1998-2009.]
One thing I never knew about this person was his religion, so it would be hard to check various religions Scottish papers.

Believe it or, I am quite optimistic that he is well. I am sure if he is, I'll one day be able to get in-touch and catch-up again, but it would mean a lot to me to know how he is either way.

Again, he is quite a private person, and I only know about him. I know nothing of his family, nor would I like to know unless he told me in person, therefore I am not asking anyone here for specific information in any shape or form, other than tips on how/where to learn of people in or from the area that have passed away. Since he's male, I doubt he'll have changed his name.

I can get my hands on news-papers local to the whole of the Argyll area, and I can use on-line resources, but I would have little interest in visiting the area.

Thank-you in advance for any help anyone might offer.

If you log onto the Scotlands People site and type in the name you could find out if he died up to and including 2006. Although your best bet is probably to PM someone who lives locally.

Thanks, I'll look into the website, but for the sake of privacy, I won't ask people.

Thanks again. :)

It is an interesting post you have made Raphael09 in general with regards local announcements and obituaries.

I've thought for some time that the Kintyre Forum could play an important part in the community in terms of making announcements with regards Deaths.

There have been a number of times in the past a funeral has been missed because someone didn't know or didn't see it in one of the local shop windows. There has also been a number of times when people do not know someone has died too as they have missed this in the local newspaper or been away etc. While these notices are placed in local shop windows and in the Courier they are only there for a few days.

My thought with the Forum is that someone could read this notice today, tomorrow, this week, next week, next month or even next year and at least know about it.

A completely separate area could be created for these notices to be posted. There have been a number of passings recently that deserved a mention or an obituary.

What do readers of the forum think?

I have thought the same at times and wondered if I should do such a post. So I think it is a good idea BUT only once it is in the public domain e.g. posted in the shop windows as what is not wanted is, as can happen, a rumour goes round and this can be when people have the same name.

Thanks Susan. I was thinking that it would have to be the official announcements that come from the Funeral Directors. If there is enough support then we cam deomonstrate that this is a good idea. Thanks for your support.

This would be most helpful to us who no longer live in the town and wish to send a card or flowers usually by the time I find out about a BMD its a little late to send a message.

I also think this is a great suggestion. I certainly log on to the forum most other days but it can be over a week before we are in town so we usually find out in the Courier and by then it is too late.

Great idea and very beneficial for people who have moved out of the area and do not get the courier! Thanks for the suggestion, but it would mean more work for the admins! :?
Luv ya billions!!!
