"Sworn to Silence" by Linda Castillo is an excellent addition to the genre of American police thrillers.
The central character is Chief of Police Kate Burkholder,in the town of Painted Mill Ohio. This is Amish country, and a serial killer is targeting young girls.
An bloody and violent start to what no doubt will become a series.

I know I'll cry until my dying day has come
Let the Winter roll along

Managed to finish 4 books on holiday, which for 10 days isn't too bad. I had packed some books I had been keeping for the hols but got to the airport and the new Alex Cross by James Patterson was jumping out at me. Obviously I had to have it and read it first, it didn't disappoint. Next was "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom (author of 5 people you meet in heaven which I loved). A tale of the author meeting up again with his old college professor in the last months of the older man's life. I really enjoyed this tale of lessons in how to live. Third on the list was "The other hand" by Chris Cleave - the synopsis reads a bit like "The boy in the striped pyjamas"....."We don't want to tell you what happens in this book. It is truly a special story", it is the story of 2 women whose lives collide one fateful day and one of them has to make a terrible choice......two years later they meet again, the story starts here.....all I will say is having spent time recently with someone who shares their home with asylum seekers, this book (although fiction) was fantastic, and definitely one I will pass on. The last one I read completely was "nineteen minutes" by Jodi Piccoult which was a similar tale to "we need to talk about Kevin" by Lionel Shriver, High school shooting and the fallout which follows for the family of the shooter. Really enjoyed this too. I have started "The girl with the dragon tattoo" but am not fully convinced I am going to enjoy it....I have been advised to persevere.

Ah, Ags, welcome back, I wondered where you were lately! I`m in the middle of The Dead Room, by Chris Mooney, a good few bodies so far, enjoying it.

PS, the new Alex Cross, would that be I, Alex Cross? I was looking at it in W.H.Smith yesterday, but couldn`t afford it this week.

Finished another Robert B. Parker novel "Blue Screen".This is from the Sunny Randall series, and as the others of his it is an enjoyable thriller.
I have James Patterson's "Cross Country" to read on the flight to Tenerife Tuesday, and among others the third Cody McFadyen to enjoy whilst soaking up the sun. 8) 8)

Finshed The Hard Way, by Lee Child the other day, another great Jack Reacher story. Love those books.

I`m currently halfway through Surrogate, by Tania Carver, her first book, a bit gruesome, but loving it.

Am I the only one reading (and with time to discuss it!)? Am currently halfway through The Poet, by Michael Connelly. Enjoying it, but not quite so good as Echo Park.

The Poet turned out to be better than I thought it was going to be. Am now just starting Dark Fire, by C.J.Sansom, a thriller set in London in 1540, will see how it pans out.

I've just finished reading it a second time. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. If you do, try and get Dissolution, the book before it in the series, and Sovereign, which comes after. Intelligent writing, a great sense of the period, strong characters and plots as good as any whodunnit. What more can you ask!

Sorry numberplease - I am not meaning to ignore you! I am having internet trouble! Yes the James Patterson I read was "I, Alex Cross".
I am reading "Extremely loud and incredibly close" by Jonathon Safran Foer. It is narrated by a child, clearly on the autistic spectrum who has lost his father in the 9/11 tragedy. If you like "curious incident of the dog" by Mark Haddon you will enjoy this. I am not that far into it but loving it. Thanks Govangirl for the reccomendation :)

Ags! Nice to see you back again, thought you`d gone and fallen out with us! I`m still reading Dark Fire, and loving it, but haven`t had as much time for reading this week. It`s definitely whetted my appetite for more books by this author, and of this genre.
