Will look out for that one Ags. I`m in the middle of The Perk, by Mark Giminez, never come across him before, apparently he`s being hailed as the new Gresham, but as I`m not too keen on Gresham, and am really enjoying this one, I`d disagree, he`s better than Gresham. This is his 2nd book, must look out for the first, The Colour of Law. I`ve had Marley and Me passed on to me, looking forward to reading it, it`ll be a b it of a departure from my usual reading matter!

Made a list of books I read on holiday, and then lost the list

I did read Lee Childs "Nothing to Lose" the latest Jack Reacher paperback. This is the 12th in the series and it is way below what we have come to expect.Very disappointed to say the least. It just never gets going, just seems to go round and round as he travels between the two towns of Hope and Despair. As one reviewer put it"You hope it is going to get better and, despair when it doesn't.

Have just finished The Perk, by Mark Giminez, and can recommend it. Am just about to embark on Marley and Me, hope it`s as good as people say.

I've just finished a fantastic children's book called 'Guantanamo Boy' which had a real impact on me. It's about an ordinary teenage muslim boy from Rochdale who goes on a family holiday to Pakistan and gets abducted, gets taken to Guantanamo Bay without charge and finds himself in terrible and cruel circumstances. It made me weep but was so inspiring and haunting. I would really recommend it and I guarantee you won't be able to put it down.

But the best read I've had in a very long time was 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' which I finished today for my Reading Group. Oh wow! What a remarkable book! I cried so many times and was moved beyond belief. It's the best book I've read in a very long time and very different, narrative-wise, to anything I've read before. I will definitely be reading it again and thoroughly, THOROUGHLY recommend it.

I've started to read chris Cleave's 'The Other Hand' tonight as people keep recommending it to me and I'm really into it - very enjoyable so far!

Even though I did finish it Ags there was a lot of skipping pages. There was very little content and too much padding.Looks like the end of the line for Reacher.Time will tell.

One of the books I remember reading on holiday was "Dead Run " by P J Tracy. There are two reasons why I remember this book.

1)It was a very fast paced and enjoyable read.

2)When I checked to see if P J Tracy was a man I was more than surprised to find that it was infact written by a Mother and Daughter. :<> :<> :<> :<> :<>
PJ Tracy is the pseudonym of mother-daughter writing duo P.J. and Traci Lambrecht. :<> :<> :<> :<> :<>

Bill I hope it isn't then end of Jack Reacher....I really quite like him!! It's always good to get some new titles for bookclub GG - especially ones that we havent picked up on!! I'm off to Oban tomorow and can't wait for a big prowl in Waterstones!!

Ags, do you have a shop called The Works where you are? They sell paperbacks that have been out for a while at £1-99, 3 for a fiver, sometimes I`ve picked up a few gems there. Recent books are normal price though.

Unfortunately not numberplease...don't know that I have ever seen a branch of that but I will be on the lookout.....I had a reasonably successful book shopping! I got 2 Alex Gray novels for Iain, I wasn't too keen on her but being a Glasgow lad he enjoys them. I managed to buy The Crime Trade by Simon Kernick and a book of short stories by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (don't ask me to pronounce that  ) who wrote Half of a yellow sun which I really enjoyed, and today, earlier than expected I got the new Lee Child....I also got my Waterstones quarterly magazine which always has some good reviews! The cover story this quarter is all about the childrens author Julia Donaldson and how her character "The Gruffalo" is ten years old this year.....do your grandkids have that??? Every wee person should have "The Gruffalo" on their bookshelf.....we loved it!!

Just finished the latest Jack Reacher story 'Gone Tomorrow'. I enjoyed it very much though the early stages were a bit of a plod at times. I don't entirely agree with either the reviewers or with Bill about 'Nothing to Lose'. Like the latest effort it did seem to be slow to get going but it got there all the same!

Hello Ags, I`ve been looking up the branches of The Works, and unfortunately their nearest branch to you is rather a long way, at Gretna, but if you`re ever that way on they`re worthy of a looksee. I`ve got Simon Kernick`s The Crime Trade in my to read pile, but at the moment am just coming towards the end of Marley and Me, by John Grogan. I`ve really enjoyed it, even though it`s not my usual kind of read, very funny in places, but also very sad. Maybe I`ll see the film next, but I`m always a bit dubious about films made from books.

Funny somebody else said the same to me yesterday about 'Nothing to lose' WC1 - I will maybe go back to it at somepoint!
I have just checked my emails and I had one from amazon yesterday telling me that 'Gone Tomorrow' will be released on April 23rd :<> You have finished it, my best buddy is halfway through it, I'm off to start it now and its April 18th :!:

I would just like to point out that my son, who is an avid reader, recently realised that he could get books on ebay. Over a couple of weeks he bought about 20 for about fifty to sixty pounds. There is also the added fun of the bidding process but be wary of postage charges.

I buy most of my books at charity shops/car boot sales and Asda.
