Is that a recent Harlen Coben book Bill? I haven`t seen that one yet. I like his books, but prefer the stand alone ones to the ones with the sports agent bloke, Mylon Bolitar.

Same here numberplease - I love Harlan Cobens stand alone books but just can't get into the Myron Bolitar ones at all!!
I havent had time to read the forum all week never mind a book but I am on my holidays now so lots of reading time I hope :D
I am half way through "The irresistable inheritance of wilberforce" by Paul Torday (another Richard and Judy author). I would never have picked it up but it was recommended to me by a friend who thought I would enjoy the references to wine.....can't imagine why  It's quite a sad story with the book beginning at the end of the story and working backwards. It's an easy read though!

Have just finished Shadows of the Workhouse which is the follow up of Call the Midwife ( true story of the east end 1950's) by Jennifer Worth. I could not put the books down, well written, I laughed, cried, cringed, there was heart warming moments and heart break,
There is a 3rd one Farewell to the East End due out April 2009.

Enjoying the thread - off to the library tomorrow to get Night Song of the last tram :D

Fraid I am playing catch-up with Harlan Coben. This one is a Mylon Bolitar story from 2000,I agree with your comment about his stand alone books.I also have another Mylon Bolitar to read called Promise Me, from 2006.

I was looking at a book last week called 101 people you won't meet in heaven. Shipman and the Wests were in it. Bit disappointed I wont meet them personally.

   That's good. (And I still want to know your views on The Wrestler, Horse).

Yes, LL, I've got it. Not as good as the book of course but Jon Voight was good in it. It is one of the best books I've ever read.

I`ve asked for book tokens, or Asda vouchers, books are cheaper there! My hubby thinks I`m crackers, he`s never read a book in his life!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Just finished Casino Royale. Love story is handled better than it is in the film, though I wouldnt mind seeing it again. Bought a book with the first three Bond novels in it. Got a Ben Elton book today, don't mind some of his stuff. Yum, caustic.

Well, I got a lot of books for Christmas including some strange ones (my nephew got me the biography of Slash? :? ).
The one I really, really wanted I didn't get! Mr Govangirl drives me up the wall at times as he goes and does his wee bit of Christmas shopping an hour before the shops shut on Christmas Eve. Of course,he didn't get Buddha Da so I've just had to order it on Amazon. He did get her other book though, called 'Being Emily' and it looks like my kind of book.
I got one called 'Before I Die' by Jenny Downham which looks like I'll need a box of tissues with it.
Happy Reading! :D

Tissues for sure!! I "enjoyed" that one!!
Tissues are the order of the day here too - I only got one book called Things I want my daughters to know by Elizabeth Noble.....I have managed to reach page 35 today and have cried 4 times
Iain got a Chic Murray book and is doing my head in with constant quotes from it....save me reading it though I suppose :D he also got The Beatles in Scotland which I will borrow!
Kirsten got loads which look really interesting, 3 by Philip Pullman, Tales of Beedle The Bard, and a set of Shakespeare for kids, I read Macbeth this morning and am looking forward to reading some of the tales I am not so familiar with!
We read SantaKid on Christmas Eve by the wonderful James Patterson, a bit of a different slant from him but fabulous just the same, Thankyou muchly GG :D

Oh dear, I know what you mean Ags - Mr Govangirl got a Tommy Cooper joke book and has been driving us all up the wall with daft jokes. They're funny the first time but he forgets what ones he's told us.

I've started to read Dreams from my Father today and I just know I'm going to love it - it's beautiful and I've cried twice already. I'll be reading the rest of the stories soon from Beedle the Bard so your daughter is going to have to give her opinion on them when she's read them. :D

What else did folk find in their stockings? And I mean books, Sheik!

Not much!  And certainly not any books. I really need to start reading more. For some reason I've never read many books - well not since the Hardy Boys!  Think it is the short concentration span I have...

Just been reading this thread for the first time - interesting thread indeed, well done!
