Sounds great, GG! Can't go wrong with Rowling anyway, IMO. I've added it to my son's Christmas list too!

Ags wrote:Hated Jane Austin Lossitlass - showed mum The Red Tent - thought she would despise the idea but she is getting it for Christmas too!! :D
The Glaswegian buddhist is good - i am more than half way through and i'm sure you could cope!! It will at least prepare you for your next trip to Machrihanish

Did you read it (Jane Austen Book Club) or see it (or both?), Ags? GG said she hated the book but hasn't seen the movie, opposite for me. I'm curious if there is a huge difference between the book & movie.......or just our opinions

Maybe I WILL give The Glaswegian Buddhist a try sometime, just for fun :)

As for The Red Tent, I'm sure you & your mom will both enjoy it! It's a really good 'women's novel'. Let me/us know what you think, ok?

Ok, off topic here but since we're talking about movies at the moment......I just watched the film 'Amelie', has anyone seen this one??? It's not new (2001) but I kept putting off seeing it until a couple of nights ago. WOW!!! Amazing!!! Whimsical & very visually pleasing. & the actress playing Amelie is just adorable in it!! (I read that she was Sophie Neveu in The Da Vinci Code but I certainly don't recall being so taken with her in that??)

I highly recommend this film!!!!!

Oh no, no Ags. I absolutely LOVED the book, a classic! As much as I LOVE Nicholas Cage, the film was just 'fluffy' I thought. Did you read Atonement? I loved it but refused to watch the film as I just could not under any circumstances imagine that Keira Knightley in the role. But the film was superb - I loved it.
And your wee one will love the stories in Beedle the Bard. :D

I've just nae class  I have heard it is really good - I will give it another try some day!
I haven't read Atonement but I bought it after seeing the film! I am not a Keira Knightley fan either but I liked her in that role - I love James McAvoy though and really enjoyed the film!

I'm nearly finished The Secret Life of Bees for my Book Group Thursday night. I've also read a couple of teenage books that were recommended by some of the kids in the Reading Reviews. Yesterday, I read The Christmas Box again as I thought it would put me in the mood for putting up the decorations but all it did was give me a pounding headache with all the greeting!!!!! Anyway, I'm STILL not finished putting them up. I had 17 boxes to sort this year! I've got to get a grip and stop decorating every corner in my hoose! Either that or write a book about it: The Cross Mystery of the Christmas Box Thief seeking Atonement by her BuddhaDa in a Red Tent.

Had to pour a wine!! Grand excuse for a monday
I saw my Mum eyeing it up yesterday so have promised to hand it in tomorrow and I'm quite sure she will get a sermon out of it for Christmas!!
I see it's part of a trilogy - have you read the other two? I Loved it - despite the swollen eyes - thank you :(I

Oh I know Ags, it's a real tearjerker! Yes, I've read the other two, not as heartbreaking but give you an insight into Mary's younger life.

Och it's a long story...something she got into in later life so she isn't fully qualified! She can do the burying but not the marrying!! (I'm sure there must be a joke in there somewhere   )
I had one of the girls on the phone tonight booking her place in the queue for The Christmas Box!

I`m just coming to the end of a book that was passed on to me by a friend, and it`s been very good. It`s called No Time For Goodbye, by Linwood Barclay. It`s a thriller with a bit of a difference.

Numberplease,

I also read that book and thought it was a really good subject for a story. A bit different.

I read that too and really enjoyed it!! Another Richard and Judy book! As i have said before - they are slated in some of the tabloids for their "book club" but I have read some books that I would never have picked up had I not seen their reviews or read their recommendations! No Time for Goodbye was one of my 2008 favourites.
