One of my closest friends enjoys Kathy Reichs numberplease and I haven't read any though i'm sure I have one of her books somewhere. Is there any one in particular I should start with?
I was in Waterstones at the weekend looking for something different and I picked up a book called "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay about a cop turned serial killer. I wasn't sure, and went to put it back on the shelf. After it landed at my feet for a third time I decided it was obviously meant to come home with me!! I haven't had a chance to start it yet though!
Govangirl - glad you enjoyed James Patterson :D

Ags, I can`t be absolutely certain, age doesn`t improve my memory, but I think the first Kathy Reichs was Deja Dead. I love them. I`ve just finished We Know, by Gregg Hurwitz. At the beginning I thought I wasn`t going to like it, but ended up not wanting to put it down! I really enjoyed it. Am now reading a book a friend passed on to me, one of those true stories with the names changed, it`s called Betrayed, by Lyndsey Harris, with Andrew Crofts. Up to now it`s not grabbed me, but I`m only a 100 or so pages into it, well over 400 to go, so my opinion might yet change.

He's not a cop, he's a forensic scientist and he was the serial killer first. But that's pedantics. It's a TV programme called Dexter (funnily enough) and it's not that bad. Might be a bit gruesome for you though. I'm still halfway through Crime & Punishment, it's getting more laborious now. Not sure what my crime was, but the book is becoming punishment.

Didn`t twig that it was about Dexter, the TV series, I loved that, hoping for another series.

Like this thread, Ags! I'm always looking for good books to add to my 'must read' list & best if they come recommended, huh??

As for me, I just finished The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. I enjoyed its mysterious, quirky, eccentric characters & story very much, it really draws you in.

I also recommend Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. A memoir (travelogue, really) about her personal, spiritual journey. She spends time in Italy (eat/pleasure), India (pray) & Bali (love). She's very funny & I found her extremely likable!!

Right now I'm reading The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. It's a novel, written from the perspective of a woman/women in biblical times. Some may be put off by this before taking a look at it but don't be! It's not as you may assume! I do not ascribe to any particular religion & certainly don't go in search of religious writings (spiritual, yes), novels or otherwise, for pleasure reading. So far I'm finding this story VERY engrossing & readable. I'll let you know how I feel after finishing it...

Lossit Lass, I like the sound of The Red Tent, I`ll look out for that. I`m just coming to the end of The Righteous Men, by Sam Bourne, it`s his first book, and I`ve really enjoyed it.

Nice to have you contributing to the forum Lossit Lass and always great to have some reccommendations for the ever growing "to read" list!
Numberplease - I absolutely loved The Rightous Men! I remember reading an article about it at the time it was published stating it was a challenger to The Da Vinci Code but that if you liked one you wouldn't like the other! I didn't finish Da vinci but loved Sam Bournes writing! I have his second book - The Last Testament! I am struggling to find a book to grip me just now - not really sure why - so may give that one a go!

OH MY GOSH! I can't believe this Lossit Lass - I just bought The Red Tent TODAY! It was recommended to me by one of my parents last night at Parents Night. I'm halfway through another book (Kate Muir's West Coast) and have to read another for my reading group in a fortnight (The Secret Life of Bees) so I can't start it yet BUT now I can't wait. I love the idea of Dinah's story so quite excited now and will be great to discuss it with others! :D

GGirl - WOW!!! Our wave-lengths are merging, it would appear :D You will love the book, I think.
Also, I have read The Secret Life of Bees & have recommended it to many...LOVED it!!!! I plan to see the movie, too. I've heard that people who read the book found the movie followed it very closely & that it was fun to see, that we readers will most likely enjoy it a whole lot more than others. So be sure to read it 1st!!
It sounds like you have a book club, true? Did you start it?

numberplease - I hope you like The Red Tent, too. Plz update us when you've read it! & I'm adding the book you mentioned to my list...thanks!!

Ags - I know, I figured it was time. In recent months I've become a night owl, can't sleep a lot of nights (I will admit, I think I'm perimenopausal  It's the only reason I can find for my 'symptoms' lately!!) so I have a nice quiet house & plenty of time to get around the internet
I also read The Da Vinci Code (& saw the movie)...you say you didn't finish it, does that mean you didn't like it?

(PS ladies...I still don't know how to use the 'Quote' option, hint, hint  When I click on it it brings the whole post to my reply box. How do I pick only the sections I actually want to quote??)
(SCRATCH THAT......JUST SAW YOUR HELP IN OTHER THREAD, GGIRL, THANK YOU!!!!!!)

Ags, I must admit to never having heard of Sam Bourne till a friend gave me The Righteous Men a few weeks ago, so I`ll definitely be lookinng out for The Last Testament, thanks for telling me about it.
Lossit Lass, did you like The Da Vinci Code? I loved it, and have read Dan Brown`s other books as well, but I must say I enjoyed Angels and Demons the most.
I`m now reading a book called Kaitlyn, by Kevin Lewis, it promises to be a good read.
And Horse, I`ve decided not to bother with Crime and Punishment after remembering how long it took me to get through War and Peace!

Numberplease - I had a feeling Sam Bourne had a third book but wasn't 100% sure! I have just been doing some Christmas shopping on waterstones.com and sure enough there is another called The Final reckoning - both that and The Last Testament (i think) are down to £3.49 just now!
This little thread is great - I love it! I have just ordered The Red Tent and Life of Bees for my mother in laws Christmas (and one of each for me  ) and also ordered the Sam Bourne books for another family member for Christmas!

Thanks for the info Ags. I`ve been dropping hints for book tokens for Christmas (again!). My family all think it`s a boring pressie to ask for, but why not? My hubby always drags me past "Paradise Alley" in Asda, and won`t let me in bookshops when he`s with me!
