I particularly like the explanation from 1659 of how certain lands on Islay came to be in the hands of the Abbey of Derry:

“As for that roume in Ila pertaining to the Albacie of Derie our Scheanachies or as Buchannane calls them Senetiones doe affirme that the same was mortified to the Albacie of Derrie in Ireland by McDonald of Ila ffor ane untymeous fart he did let goe. This I bot tell you by the way.”

I have received yet another amazing piece of Kintyre history from Australia in the contents of a book called:

The Commons of Argyll.

This book is once again in a large .PDF format (8Meg in size) and names specific Argyll individuals who were considered rebels and/or fencible men just a few years after the massacre at Glencoe, which many considered a warning to other clans who would not swear fealty.

Names, farms and locations are all listed and the language is more easily understood than the last set of documents, as this was edited in the 1930's.
