Whether one agrees or disagrees with Mrs Thatcher's politics, it is indeed sad to see that someone of her stature has become so debilitated within what is not really a great number of years. It reminds us of our own mortality and the fact that we could all be subject to the same problems as we get older.

Yes, very sad Emdee. I have a friend with these problems. He was a bit of a genius and it's heartbreaking to see his faculties gone. My mother is the same and I do so agree with the 'hard to have patience' bit!

I also have a mother who suffers from this. Sometimes, the only thing that gets you through it is the laughter that we share from the truly remarkable stories that she comes out with. You find yourself asking "how can she possibly believe this to be true?". When you think of the people who they were to the people they have become it is heartbreaking. I often find that if it is a physical illness, you could cope with it better, but then again maybe I wouldn't.

Good to see Baroness Thatcher still being recognised for her achievments,Lady Thatcher has won the Magna Carta Award for outstanding contribution to Public Life.


This follows on from last weeks invitation to Chequers where she was welcomed by Gordon Brown. Having chosen the date, she brought sweets for his sons and ate her favourite lunch of vegetable soup, herb chicken and meringue, prepared by her old chef, while Brown talked about the leaders she had worked with, such as Gorbachev.

Hopefully it will be many years before the arrangements for her state funeral are implemented.
