Apparently it has been announced that Baroness Thatcher is to have a state funeral when her time comes:

If I recall right, was this not Tony Blair's idea a few years ago?
I'm all for giving her respect when she goes but from only those who respected her. A state funeral to me would be abhorrent. They certainly would need to have the troops out in order to quell the masses of people who had misery heaped upon them under her leadership.

I suggest having her funeral in one of the once thriving communities that she changed into a wasteland of deprivation and then burying her in one of the many abandoned coal mines for which she was responsible. Totally fitting.

What bothers me more is that the ghastly Mark, her son and heir, will inherit her Baronetcy when she pops her clogs.

I think he has already inherited a baronetcy when his father died a few years ago and is the 'Honourable' Mark Thatcher
The fact that he hasn't lived in the country his mama created for the last 15 years says it all.

We have a street party planned for when the old witch pops her clogs.
The baronetcy is a life peerage and is not therefore hereditary, her dolt of a son inherited his title from his father who was made a baron by John Major shortly after he replaced Thatch.
Hopefully he's get his comeuppance for his involvement in Equatorial Guinea and end his days rotting in some foreign prison cell.

I fear you may be wrong. There was a lot made of it at the time when people realised it would pass on to Mark. I truly hope you're right and I'm wrong.

The one given to Dennis was hereditary and has been passed on. I'm not sure what he got his knighthood for though, being a twat I expect.

Just been checking up on this. Apparently Denis was given a hereditary baronetcy in 1990, which meant that Maggie became Lady Thatcher at the same time. In 1992 she was made a life peeress in her own right then becoming Baroness Thatcher. Denis’s hereditary title has therefore already passed to Mark. It’s not clear why he was given it, possibly in recognition of his having remained married to Maggie for all these years? Of course, she was Prime Minister when he was given it. Is that cronyism or what? :?

One of the enduring images from the 1980s series “Spitting Image” was the Mark Thatcher puppet emerging from a small flap in the door of No 10, and when the flap closed again it read “prat flap”.

Surely somebody must think she's a deserving case?

It's odd how she appears to have been the most unpopular Prime Minister of recent times, yet is the only one (apart from Churchill) to be given a state funeral. :?
