Avatars

I`m trying to install myself an avatar, but the picture I want to put on is apparently too big for the forum. Can I make it smaller, and if so, how? Help would be appreciated very much.

I use this http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx and download Image Resizer. I use this program all the time, it saves waiting for some sites to resize your pics if they can do that. I download at the 640x480 setting as do most members on here, the odd one going larger hence as Jock Strap said going off page.

Simply program once you have it downloaded, you right click your photo in your album, click resize, tick small box or 640x480, then ok. Download small pic to Photobucket or your choice of sites, no waiting about to auto resize. Think I posted this some time back.

For avatar size click custom and in the first box put 100 and in second 75pixels and click ok.Your photo should be now 100x75.

Thanks for the info, I`ll try tomorrow when I`m a bit more awake, but I`m a bit thick with things technical, so hope it works. If not, I`ll have to stay avatarless!!

The file size is currently 0Kb so you may have to try again.

For those of you who want a free ready made avatar, try the following places.

http://www.allavatars.com
http://avatars.jurko.net
http://www.free-avatars.com
http://www.avatarpimp.com

There's loads others if you do a search.

I am so sorry for STILL not understanding this but I have triedevery which way to add an avatar and I just can't do it. I get all sorts of messages saying I can't do it - the latest being:
This file cannot be displayed because the extension docx is not allowed. What the heck is that about? Please help a damsel in distress! :(

It needs to be an proper image file Govangirl, docx is an extension used by Microsoft Word.

Try using a ready made avatar from one of the many websites that have them. Go to one of the avatar websites, say http://www.avatarpimp.com and find a simple avatar, any one will do. Right-click on the avatar and in the pop-up menu select "Save Picture as..." This will copy it to your hard drive. Remember to make a note of where it's being saved.

Go to the Forum website and to your User Control Panel and in the edit avatar section choose Upload from your machine. Navigate to where you saved the avatar and click submit. If that works you can then be more selective in your choice of avatar. Keep an eye on the file size - it needs to be under 20KB.

Good luck.

Right, I did EXACTLY as you said but I got this:

Image file type mismatch: expected extension jpg but extension gif given.

What did I do wrong? :?
