Scotty ...I made no such alegations about Vestas employees - only the system that sees thier jobs heavily subsidised.

Sorry if you guys are too cerebrally challanged to work out the contradiction in your statements

What was that part in your thread about them falling down in ten years sounds like a dig at the people that make them to me ,but as you say myself and wee toon ajax might be to cerebrally challanged to understand someone of your intelligence

I know a thing or 4

Ajax - burger me ! they got 9 million as well as all the tax credits! didnt know that!
And intercompany charges are fairly easy to apply all it means is that a low cost site subsidises a high cost one - you mean these guys in c'town arnt paying for accountants and management in Denmark? get real - If you work for a company that is multinational and isnt paying most tax in its lowest tax rated country - Id look for another job.

and what will happen to the 9million when they sell out? - dont hold your breath waiting for it to be repaid. It never and I mean never is.

scotty - no slur was intended - these are heavy duty bearings and turbines - even the best of em will fall apart after 10 years of continuous use in such harsh environs.

Excuse me what do you mean by get real - I do work for a multinational company and no we pay dont most of our tax in our lowest tax rated country.

Most of our profit is generated by a company registered in a high rate tax country which is where they conduct their business, cant conduct the business elsewhere. As I explained to you earlier every intercompany charge that we have between companies has to be approved by the tax authorities in the relevant country. Have you ever had to deal with these tax authorities - as soon as they think you are trying to avoid paying tax in their country they will block every intercompany charge they can. I wish it was as simple as you suggest but in real life I am afraid it is not.

But hey I suppose you know better?

General Jack, ah so I have been in discussion with one of Sweltered's many brothers, alas if I had to know that I would have not bothered, never won an argument with Sweltered years ago at school so no point trying with the extended family :D :D but was fun while it lasted.

Perhaps we could get discussion on this issue to allow some of less knowledgeable people to form opinions.

I was approached tonight to sign a petition at Tescos supporting the Largie Wind Farm. Having read a bit about this before and still sitting on the fence I politely said to the lady I would not sign the petition until I understood the issue better. I then entered a discussion on the pros and cons of Kintyre having another wind farm which helped me understand why people wish to support the proposed wind farm. However, I am still sitting on the fence about the whole issue as I don't know enough about it.

So to enable me to form a better opinion on the issue I was hoping some people could add their comments.

I know the opposition to the wind farm has made an overall impact on the Council's decision - alot of this comes from the website http://www.stoplargiewindfarm.com/ which managed to get support from all over the world to oppose the wind farm - which anyone could setup and get support so it is worth little - what about asking the people of Kintyre?

Anyway, what are the PROS and CONS as I still don't understand enough PROS?

A lot about the wind farm issue depends on your individual perspective and how much those making the decision about planning applications value your perspective.

My perspective is that the only con of any potential magnitude about wind farms is visual impact. I feel that if Gigha could get away with the three sore thumbs silhouetted against what in my opinion is the best natural sea scape in the uk then the game is a bogie for that argument.

The pros, employment, environmentally sustainable energy, a more sustainable rural community, economic benefits to those directly affected.

Its not the pros and cons which decide these things but how much those making the decision about planning applications value individual opinions. A whole community in the vacinity can say yes, but if the board of quango choose to look twice. or a council commity gets cold feet forget it.

Thanks John, that is an excellent start! 8)

Ironically enough tonight the lady mentioned the wind farms on Gigha and mentioned the benefits. I was quite honest and said I have never liked them as I think it spoils one of the best views in Kintyre (again just a personal opinion and can understand why people like them too!)

However, the benefits to the community of £100,000 in the first year is very impressive - well done! Again not knowing enough why can't we have the same set-up in Kintyre?

Just so I can understand better (and please that is all it is 8) )

What are the pros to Kintyre of having

1. environmentally sustainable energy
2. a more sustainable rural community (???)
3. economic benefits to those directly affected

Once again I would like to point out I am not opposed to the proposed wind farm but just trying to understand why another one is needed in Kintyre so I can then lend my support to the proposal if convinced 8)

As i understand it, this is possibly going to be the only form of supplying and storing energy (electricity) in the not too distant future, surely there is only one answer to the question of whether or not we require wind farms ?
Or am I missing the point somewhere along the line, be it offshore or mainland, if this is the best, and possibly only way forward, then we must take it.
