I was a couple of minutes into listening to this the other day before I realised it was Springsteen's song. She certainly turns the original into something completely different.
I know my Summer'll never come
I know I'll cry until my dying day has come
Let the Winter roll along
I've got nothing left but song

I do try to like that song but . . . although it's a very fine cover.

All Boss fans will be sad to learn that Pete Seeger - a musical moral compass, social conscience, inspiration to so many and probably the first man to bring politics to music - died yesterday. When Johnny Cash introduced Bob Dylan to the audience at the 1964 Newport Folk Festival he said the following: "We think he's the best songwriter of the age since Pete Seeger." I last saw Seeger when he sang Woody Guthrie's This Land is Your Land with Bruce at Barack Obama's inauguration in 2009. The man should have been given a Nobel peace prize.

This is for true Boss fans: respect to this list. I love them all especially #5 live and #8 is one of my all-time favourite songs.

Thanks for posting that GG. Some great songs on there right enough - and some interesting research/journalism to back it up.

I saw Roulette on the Tunnel of Love Tour and it was great live, and that was the first time I'd ever heard it, and have loved it ever since.

Have always really liked "My Love Will Not Let You Down" but the backing vocals on the Live in New York City recording seem to be out of key to me and do nothing for the song - not sure if Mrs Springsteen is to blame for that

He uses a harmonica melody at the end of This Hard Land - I know he borrows and cannibalises songs that never made albums - so was wondering where else has he used that riff - as I've definitely heard it before and it's doing my head in :?

Finally, don't know why, but I've never liked Seeds - just can't get into it at all :?:

Sheik, I agree with everything you say apart from your last comment - Seeds is a real kick ass Bruce track!

And This Hard Land - the harmonica riff is in the key of G like many of his songs: The Promised Land, The Price You Pay, The River, etc. but it is more than a little like This Land is Your Land or My Beautiful Reward?

'Stay hard. Stay hungry. Stay alive if you can.'

He's only 11 years older than me GG, however I think my hair is starting to look like his, where there are more grey ones replacing the original dark ones!!!
Watched the '' Born In The USA '' DVD ( included with High Hopes ), during the weekend, in celebration of his birthday! I'm more determined than ever not to miss the next tour!!! Hopefully, I'll then get to see how '' important '' he is to you, first hand!

Thought this might be of interest to some one looking for an early Christmas present..................

Bruce Springsteen's "The River" to Be Reissued as Expanded Seven-Disc Box Set on December 4th.

The Ties That Bind: The River Collection features four CDs and three DVDs, including a remastered edition of the original 20-track album, an early 10-song single-disc version of the record, a variety of outtakes, a new making-of documentary, a previously unreleased 1980 concert video, and more.
