Wasn't the way she acted at least in part due to the uncompromising stance of the unions throughout the 70s - who bullied and beat at once one previous government? When they had the power they abused it, "all out!" at the drop of a hat. There needs to be a balance between unions and management, but the way it had been couldn't continue.......

I would think that is it in a nutshell. Also the newspaper "stories" said she considered using troops etc, she wouldn't have been doing her job if she hadn't thought about all the possible scenarios.
Those of us of a certain age remember the shambles the country was in back in the day (seems as though some things never change) the constant strikes over bugger all in some cases, the inefficiences of the nationalised industries were legendary and union power was out of control, remember Grunwick etc.
Trouble is once she had knocked them down, she didn't stop kicking and now we have lost nearly all of our heavy industry.

Aye, the unions were out of control, but so was Thatcher come the time of the miners
strike and the recession of the early 80's.
She wanted a divided society and got it, her legacy lives on..........

Totally agree. Never voted Tory in my life, would rather vote Monster Raving Loony. I just cant stand the standard response of "everything was her fault" when there was blame all over the place.
Look at the succession of nonentities we have had since though and the state of the counry now.
If she was completely wrong, why did Blair not reverse her legacy when he had the chance. :?

I will be celebrating Thatcher's funeral by being unemployed. It's what she would have wanted.

I think maybe he tried, initially, but got caught up with that clown Dubya in an illegal, unwinnable conflict and lost the credibility of the nation.......

Blair was as near a Thatcherite as you get. Better press agent though.
