THe families of Kintyre and their relatives in Ireland

Evidence has shown that people llving on the KIntyre Peninsula and nearby islands traded and migrated across to Ireland for many years in history. Some families left Scotland to live in Ireland while in other examples relative descendants lived both in Scotland and Ireland.
I am particualrly interested in the McNeill families and the connections between the Scottish families and those who lived in Ireland.

Hi John. My paternal Grandfather born in Campbeltown has his Grandfather in Rathlin Island..., a 30-minute swim from Machrihanish. Lol ! As you said..., his, 3xG Grandfather came from Scotland !

I wonder how many established Kintyre families have their roots in Ulster through the Ulster Scots of the 17th Century Plantation re-migrating back to Scotland via Kintyre? I suspect this may include my own family as I and others have researched this and found that my Great Great Grandfather came to Kintyre from Ireland in the 1790s. The guidelines here are obviously a Scottish surname and a Presbyterian background.

I've never tried to look any further into this, but maybe Iain would know if there is any way of researching the family names of the Ulster Plantation and their origins.
