Hi Gizmo

Private Angus Keith McKinven was my father's uncle, the sister of my grandmother Mary McPhail McKinven. He was wounded in the Battle of the Somme in 1916 and died a short time later in hospital in Rouen, France. He is buried in the military section of the cemetery at St. Sever, France, which is at Rouen. We have visited his grave and have photos of his tombstone there.

Veterans Affairs Canada has a website with a section titled Canada Remembers and there is a Virtual War Memorial with information on every Canadian soldier killed during WW I. We have posted Angus's obituary, photo and a photo of his tombstone on this site. Here is a link that will take you directly to the correct site.

We have some other information also. What is your connection to Angus Keith McKinven?

Hi Pinchin,
I dont have any connecton to the McKinvens, I have been collecting details on the men mentioned on the War Memorial for a while now,I had already found the details you posted on the Canada Remembers site.
You may not know he is also commemorated on the Grammar School Memorial and the Highland Parish Church Memorial, there is a photo of him in the Courier dated 28/10/1916.
I tried posting a link to it but it is too big and I dont know how to resize it, if you PM me your e-mail address I will send it to you.
If you have any other details or photos I would be interested in seeing them.

Hi again Ian,
Thank`s for your reply to my posting on the McKinven family.I have quite a bit of info on some of them and very little on others so your list of children is a great help to me.
Regarding your previous posting ,the son of James --Lawrence McKinven, was not his son.The Lawrence McKinven born on 2 Aug. 1874 was the child of Donald McKinven & Janet Sharp who were married at Campbeltown in 1862 and had the following children
Daniel McKinven b. 1862
John McKinven b. 1864
Lawrence McKinven [1] b. 1867 [died 1868]
James Sharp McKinven b. 1870
Lawrence McKinven [2] b. 1874
Janet Beith McKinven [1]b. 1872 [died 1873]
Janet Beith McKinven [2]b.1877
I hope this is of interest to you and if you can provide any other info on them i would love to have it.
Cheers,
Joe McMillan

Hi Joe..., I sent your modifications to the person ceoncerned. I'll keep you updated when she replies.
In the meantime, as there are errors in that tree it would be confusing if I added to the list above.

Have a nice week end..., Iain.

Hi Pinchin,

Angus Keith McKinven's father, Robert, was my gt gt grandmother's brother. My gt gt granny was Flora McKinven, born in Tayinloan in 1856 to Donald McKinven and Elizabeth Stewart. She married my gt gt grandfather, Neil Scally in 1873.

I have in the past done a little research on Angus Keith McKinven(I thought he was very interesting). If you go on the Canadian records site www.collectionscanada.gc.ca and look at the military records(WW1-CEF) you will see his attestation papers(sign-up papers). His service no. for reference purposes was 14758. He is also honoured on the University of Glasgow WW1 Roll of Honour with a link to a short bio.

www.universitystory.gla.ac/ww1-biography/?id=4337

Perhaps you can help me with a question? Angus' mother was Elizabeth Keith. Angus's uncle, James McKinven married a Christine Keith. Do you know if these two ladies were related, as that is my suspicion? I noticed that Angus's cousin, another Angus also served in a Canadian regiment and was killed the same year in Germany.

Karen.
