Owing to a change in circumstances, we have swapped the August and October walks around, so the August 6th walk will now be to Craigaig, led by Heather Smithson.

Meet in Lorne and Lowland Church car park at 11.00. Arrange transport to Ballygroggan, and from there the walk is about three miles, and takes approx. two and a half hours (including a lunch stop). The terrain varies from track to boggy parts, muddy parts, plus crossing a small burn (bridges provided) and a steepish downward path to the ruins at Craigaig where we will stop for lunch.

Please bring walking boots, waterproofs, sticks, and packed lunch.

John and Marion

Hello Walkers,

The Church Walk for September 3rd is to Skipness, and will be led by Ian Teesdale.

Meet at 10.30 a.m. in Lorne and Lowland Church car park, and arrange transport. Travel to Skipness, leave cars in the car park at the entrance to the woodland, and start walking at 11.45.

From the car park we go to the riverside, uphill and upstream on the North-East side of the river to the dun (about one-third of a mile). Leave the forestry, head NE across open moorland for two-thirds of a mile, then head South-East downhill, and continue to the shore (approx. 1 mile). Return to Skipness via the rocky shore (approx. 1.3 miles) through vegetation, boggy in places. Beyond Skipness point is a good path.

Overall a relatively strenuous but enjoyable 3-4 mile walk.

Please bring walking boots, waterproofs, sticks, and packed lunch. Please note the Seafood Cabin at Skipness is closed on Saturdays.

Regards,

John and Marion

Hello Walkers,

An early note to remind you that the next walk is on 7th January, Westport to Macrihanish. There is no leader for this walk, as it is straightforward.

Transport and lunch are flexible, people may prefer to take cars and leave at either end of the walk, or use the buses. At the moment, we do not have bus times from Campbeltown to Westport, or from Macrihanish back to Campbeltown - will let you know those nearer the time.

Packed lunch is optional, or some people may prefer to eat in the Old Clubhouse, or just go straight home.

Please use suitable footwear for beach walking; waterproofs; walking sticks if you feel you need them.

May we take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

All best,

John and Marion

Hi Folks,

Further to our e-mail of 10th December, we have now found out the times of the buses for the Westport to Macrihanish walk on 7th January.

The Glasgow bus leaves Campbeltown stands at 11.30, arriving at Westport approx. 11.40. If we can do the walk in time, we can catch the 1.30 back to town, if not, perhaps a leisurely lunch in the Old Clubhouse until the next bus at 3.30.

See you Saturday,

John and Marion

Hello Everybody,

This month's walk takes place at Tayinloan - Largie Estate - led by John. The walk is mainly on track and moorland, some of which may be rough in places. It should take approx. 4 hours (inc. lunch). We walk by the ruins of the old house, passing the old laundry, up and over a meadow to a forest track, looking back to superb views over the isles of Gigha, Islay and Jura. After a while we cross a ford and arrive at the ruins of Lagloskine. Stop here for lunch, then return via the same route.

Meet at 11.00 in Lorne & Lowland Church car park, and arrange transport.

Please bring walking boots, sticks, waterproofs and packed lunch.

John and Marion

Hello Everybody,

The walk for Sat 3rd March takes place at Southend, being led by Archie Reid.

Meet at Lorne and Lowland Church at 11.00. Arrange transport to Southend, and park at the church. From there it is a two mile walk along the road to where we turn off at Langholm sheep tanks, and go up Todhill, which is about another three-quarters of a mile across moorland. Stop here for lunch, then return to the church via the same route.

For those who do not want to walk along the road, there is a possibility of parking a car or two at one of the farms nearer to Todhill, and walking from there.

Please wear boots, bring waterproofs and packed lunch. Sticks optional.

Bye for now,

John and Marion
