Clachan walk

Sat 4th Sept: Meet in Lorne and Lowland Car park at 11 a.m., with boots, waterproofs and lunch, for a straightforward circular walk with stunning views. Heather Smithson will be leading us up the hill from Clachan village, past Loup House, and back along the shore path, which may be muddy in places.

If it makes sense to go directly to Clachan, please meet up with the rest of us at the school at 11.45.

The walk on 2nd October, to be led by Moira MacDougall, will start at Knocknaha, by Kilchrist Castle, round some gentle hilly area, and back down by Uigle Farm. Mostly farm track and grassy areas. It is not a difficult walk, and is estimated to take 2½ - 3 hours.

Waterproofs, boots, sticks and lunch all necessary.

Hello Everybody,

The walk for December 4th is to Glenramskill, and will be led by Moira MacDougall.

Meet in Lorne and Lowland Church car park at 11 am. Car pool to Glenramskill, and park at the waste ground at the foot of the farm road. Walk on road to just past Ballymenach, across farmland back to Glenramskill. Not too long a walk, but likely to be muddy.

Please bring boots, waterproofs and packed lunch.

All best,

John and Marion

Hello Folks,

The first walk of the New Year is scheduled for Westport Beach to Macrihanish. Sat 8th Jan 2011

The plan is to take the 11.15 Glasgow bus as far as Westport Beach, then walk along the beach to Macrihanish, and get the bus back into town from there (timetable to be confirmed). We would be grateful if you could let us know if you will be doing the walk, then John can reserve some seats on the Glasgow bus for us ... or you may prefer to arrange your own transport.

Meet as usual, in Lorne and Lowland Church car park at 11. a.m.

Please wrap up well, bring wet weather gear, boots, and packed lunch, although some people may prefer to have lunch at the pub in Macrihanish and catch a later bus. We'll leave that decision to individuals!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas, and a good 2011.

John and Marion

Hello Folks,

The walk for 5th February will be led by Ian Teesdale, and takes us to Shenachie.

Meet at the Lorne and Lowland Church car park, at 11.am. We travel, by car, along the Learside Road to The Bastard, where there is parking opposite for four cars. We then walk approx. 1½ miles along undulating forest track, emerge from there and continue walking on mixed terrain, with two water splashes to cross. The route then takes us back along the Learside Road, which is quite hilly.

We shall stop for packed lunch en route, and will also need boots and sticks, as can be muddy in places.

Estimated total time for walk is 1½ - 2 hours, including the lunch break.

Look forward to seeing you on the 5th.

The Church Walk on 5th March is an easy-going circular one around Lussa Loch, approx. 7½ miles. Meet at Lorne and Lowland Church car park at 11.00, arrange transport, and travel to the first foresters' hut to park.

Please bring packed lunch, waterproofs, boots and sticks.

We have one more walk arranged for April in this year's programme, so a meeting has been arranged for Wednesday, 6th April, at 7.30 p.m. in the Lorne and Lowland Church Hall, to arrange the next year's walks and contingency plans. Please come along and discuss your ideas/suggestions/favourite walks. If you can't make the meeting, perhaps you could tell us your thoughts at the March walk, or e-mail us, and we can take your suggestions along to the meeting. Please pass this message on to anybody you know who does not have e-mail.

All best,

John and Marion
