McMillan/Gorman/Duncan/

Postby AndrewDuncan » Sat Oct 16, 2010 6:08 pm

Hi,

My father was Peter McMillan Duncan, his father was Samuel Gorman Duncan and his parents were Peter McMillan Duncan and Catherine Duncan (Gorman).
I am hoping there is someone here who recognises these names and can maybe contact me about them. I have many questions. I believe my grandfather (SGD) separated and divorced my Grandmother and remarried so there might be relatives in and around Campbeltown who are

I know my Grandfather (SGD) lived in Arrochar and worked for the Forestry but I believe he is buried in Campbeltown(?), but for sure his father (PMD) lived and worked in Campbeltown in Park Square.

I live in Plymouth, England now

Best regards

Andrew Duncan

Any dates for the ancestors that you mention? My grandfather was also a Samuel Duncan, although not the same one as yours, but undoubtedly they would be related. I have traced back my own Duncan line in Campbeltown to the late 1700s, but have not yet tried to go any further. Probably coincidentally, my middle name is MacMillan as well, but there are lots of different MacMillan families in Kintyre, and in my case it came from my mother's family.

Incidentally, you have the same name as one of my sons. :D

These two names at the bottom are familiar to me. Your Great Great Grandfather Samuel Duncan was my Grandfather, and I knew that his father was Daniel Duncan. I've checked up the table of relationships and this makes us 1st cousins twice removed. :D

Only our oldest son Scott has MacMillan in his name.

Peter McMillan Duncan, son of Samuel Duncan and Annie McMillan and Grandson of Daniel Duncan and Mary McKinlay, was the brother of my grandfather John McMillan Duncan. Peter also had brothers Samuel, Robert and sister Janet. The names McMillan Duncan is also included in the name of my brother. If you wish to pm me I can give you further information.

I am extremely happy to learn this, pleased to meet you 2nd cousin twice removed :D . Which of the brothers of Peter McMillan Duncan was your father? We have census returns for 1901 and they lived in, I think 'Cowdenknowes' off Dalaruan.
Do you live in Campbeltown now?
We have a family tree on ancestry.co.uk that you might wish to elaborate on, I would be pleased as punch if you could.
We (my mum, brother Craig and me) last visited Campbeltown in 1998 when my father passed away. We ( youngest brother Rob and me, possibly with Craig) will be visiting again when we have more data within the research.
Of course this would make you a cousin of my Grandfather Samuel Gorman Duncan.

Hi there, my grandfathers name was Robert Duncan. He was born Nov12th 1895 at Broombrae here in Campbeltown. His father was Samuel Duncan (distillery worker), his mother was Annie Mc Millan.I can remember many years ago my mother's two aunts,Janet and Annie visiting my grandfather each summer. I think they may have lived in Dumbarton but not certain.
My grandfather married n Jordan and had eleven children,my mother being the oldest. Two of my mothers sisters were also called Janet and Annie.
