I won`t bore you with what I`ve read between times, but have just finished a book by someone I`ve considered several times and finally decided to give him a go. It was Play Dead, by Richard Montenari. It took me a while to get into the story, but once hooked I thoroughly enjoyed it. Am now just starting an omnibus by a very old favourite of mine, Ed McBain. They date back to 1959, namely The Pusher, and the others are Kink`s Ransom and Money, Money, Money. I think I`ve read the last 2, but definitely not the first. I was a great Steve Carella and 87th Precinct fan, and looking forward to catching up with them again.
Another book I`ve got my eye on is My Bonny, by John Suchet, though it will probably be an emotional read.

I have finally finished reading "House Rules" by Jodi Picoult about a boy with Asperger's Syndrome whose tutor is found dead. All the hallmarks of Jacob's condition make the police believe he is guilty of her murder. As I think I have said before, some of this author's books I have enjoyed and others I have really disliked. This one was good but slightly predictable. She has done a lot of research into the condition and as with some of her previous materials the book is written from the perspective of several different characters each taking turns to narrate a chapter. I hope to do lots of reading during this summer holiday so next on the agenda is "Play Dead" by Harlan Coben. This is the first book ever written by the author in his early twenties and he says in the introduction there are a few names, places and one or two characters he has borrowed from this story over the years in all his other books.

House Rules is on my to read list, as is My Bonnie, by John Suchet, but I tend to wait till they go paperback. I`ve recently read I Can See You, by Karen Rose, very good, I`ve really become very keen on her books, and I`m just coming to the end of an omnibus by someone I haven`t come across before, Chelsea Cain. The 2 books are Heartsick, and Sweet Heart. I wasn`t too sure at first, but I`ve actually quite enjoyed them.

I am reading "The Dramatist"by Ken Bruen, the 4th in the Jack Taylor series.

Bruen is an Irish author with over 20 titles to his credit.I came across him only a few weeks ago when I read his 2006 publication "American Skin",which is a stand alone blood filled thriller spanning Ireland-America.Absolutely brilliant.
I then read his "Sanctuary",a Jack Taylor novel which was excellent.Taylor is an ex Irish Guarda, recovering alcoholic, drug user and sometimes P.I.
Also have another in the Jack Taylor series ,"Priest" to read next.

Have also came across David Levien whose two novels"City of the Sun"and "Where the Dead Lay"are both excellent reads. Both books center round Frank Behr,an ex Indianapolis cop.

Let the Winter roll along

After a rather slow start, The Night Ferry became quite riveting, I`m now just starting I`m Watching You, by Karen Rose.

Play dead by Harlan Coben was really good. In the first third of the book there were a couple of places that you could sense his inexperience and I worried that it wasn't going to live up to the expectation of his later books but as always it was a cracking read. I thought it was going to be a bit predictable when a "twist" in the tale was just what I was expecting but with nearly 100 pages still to go there were plenty more twists and turns in the story. I have just started "The Killing Place" by Tess Gerritsen - another Rizzoli and Isles tale. I'm a bit worried that this is going to be very dark, I'm on the edge of my seat and only on chapter 6. And....I have just had an email from Amazon to say the brand new Karin Slaughter has been despatched! It's a crime-fest fortnight in Machrihanish.....brilliant!! All we need now are a few sunny days for sitting on the beach with a book :D

I have just finished this one as well and found it a bit "amateur" compared to the ones today. Something I kept thinking "why doesn't she use her mobile" and then I remembered when he wrote this there were no mobiles for authors to refer to. doh :D

I bought Play Dead tonight, but it won`t be getting read just yet, as it`s at the bottom of my to read pile. I read a book a short while ago called Play Dead, but this one was by Richard Montenari, I have another of his books next in my pile after the Karen Rose one that I`m reading now.

 I thought that too but I think it was written about 20 years ago!! How did we cope :?: All these calls from pay phones and hotel foyers would have been made from throw away "cell phones" if it was an up to date tale!! I still enjoyed it very much though.
