Archie McAllister and Ross Kennedy

Archie McAllister with Ross Kennedy: Archie and Ross make a welcome return to the Festival and play for the first time together since they took their separate career paths almost 10 years ago. As a duo they recorded three CD’s with their “Gathering Storms” album receiving Q Magazine's "best folk album of the year" award. This afternoon performance gives an opportunity to hear this wonderful duo in action again.
Archie a native of Campbeltown and who makes his first appearance at the Dalriada Connections concert this year started playing the fiddle when he was 13 years old under the tutorage of Maurice Duncan. He is a well-known face in the traditional music scene and his distinctive, driving and versatile style earned him a nomination for best instrumentalist in the Trad Music Awards 2004. He has travelled and recorded with many groups, including the Jura Ceilidh Band (featuring the twin fiddles of Archie and Jerry Holland together on one album) and with Ross Kennedy as the duo Kennedy and McAllister. Together they made three albums, their Gathering storms album received Q Magazines ' best folk album of the year'. More recently he has played with the Black Rose Ceilidh Band, Skipinnish, Ian 'Stretch' McFadyen to name but a few. A firm favourite of the Festival, Archie played fiddle at last years Picture House Concert with Scooter Muse and performs every year at Survivors Night with The Wee Toon Tellers. Last year Archie recorded his first solo CD “Fiddlers Rock” on Skipinnish Records.
Ross has been a professional folk musician for over 25 years as a singer, guitar and fiddle player, who lives locally in Campbeltown and performed with Canterach at last years concert. He has toured, recorded and played with Scottish legends The Tannahill Weavers and was also the founding member of great bands such as The Iron Horse, The Jura Ceilidh Band and Canterach. Ross also had a very successful and long association with fiddler Archie McAllister, and has gone on to play in many other duos and trios in his long and varied career. He now devotes his time to the exciting pipes, fiddle and song group Canterach. Ross has a strong, melodic singing voice coupled with a powerful and sensitive guitar accompaniment and is one of the select band of folk musicians who have successfully translated the traditional tunes of the fiddle and pipes to the acoustic guitar. He also enjoys playing bouzouki and mandolin and occasionally dabbles with the fiddle. He has taught Celtic flatpicking guitar at home and abroad and has produced/played on over 40 studio albums with many acclaimed musicians from the traditional music world. Last year Ross recorded his first solo CD “Scottish Voice And Acoustic Guitar” on Greentrax Records

Thanks Ptarmigan

The line up is now complete and we have now added excellent young fiddle player Frank Rochford and also Chelsea McLean who has a wonderful voice. Last years concert was raved about by everyone who attended and this year looks like it could be even better.

The tickets are going really well for the concert which is great and we also have more info from the sponsors, 'Mitchell's Glengyle Distillery' which should interest the whisky connoisseurs amongst you.

More info to follow.
