Please Read our Review of our Barrowlands gig and let it inspire you to come see us at Survivors night!!!! :
The Lemmings, are confident but not arrogant. They all appear to be experienced musicians in their own right, yet hail from a part of Scotland that is not well known for its more mainstream experiments in music. This ideology is slightly inconsistent in that Mid-Argyll provided the inspiration for one of the best selling singles of all time - Mull of Kintyre.
Their music is unmistakably Scottish and as a result it is unlike much of the other pap that circulates around the British music scene. Visually, the band have avoided looking like every other indie-rock band by avoiding long sweeping fringes and skinny jeans. A prescription that bands in Glasgow find almost impossible to accept and yet still expect to be taken seriously. Because of these small, but noticeable variances, The Lemmings are a refreshing break from what I have come to expect from Glasgow bands over the years.
For men their age, their musical influences are I assume, quite vast. There are hints of the old and new jostling for position and The Lemmings also cleverly combine elements from traditional Scottish music to create something that is listenable and insightful. On first listen, it was an engaging set and while the venue was by no means full, there was an excitement amongst the crowd who had gathered close to the stage and this added a much needed humanistic element to the show. Fans of The Coral, Radiohead or Muse would find a lot of joy in this band.
Oscar Wilde once wrote "If one plays good music, people don't listen and if one plays bad music people don't talk". Sometimes bands can find themselves in this aqward position whereby they need to take the bull by the horns, experiment that little bit more, drive their sound forward and take more musical risks. Both Tamikas Treehouse and The Lemmings need to (and probably will) take this next step. If they do and do it right, then these are two bands to watch closely in the coming months and years
