A bit about A Few Good Men who are playing Survivors Night

Postby MOK Music Festival » Tue Aug 02, 2005 12:05 am

Just a quick post on info received from A Few Good Men...

The idea for A FEW GOOD MEN emerged after Derek Forbes (Simple Minds) and I met at a Dead Men Walking gig at King Tuts in Glasgow at the end of last year. For anyone who doesn't already know, D M W is a collection of musicians from successful bands playing their hit records. People like Mike Peters from The Alarm and Jim Phantom from The Stray Cats were involved.
Afterwards, we decided to put together a band of our own based on the
same principle as D M W. A Scottish version. We figured there were enough Scottish musicians around to make the idea work. Tracking people down and checking if they were interested and available was a bit of a task initially. But, our perseverance paid off and, on July 8th we played for the first time at The Special Olympics Closing Ceremony on Glasgow Green to 15,000 people. Donnie Munro from Runrig was also part of the event. He was on before us, performing Loch Lomond. The reaction we received was amazing!
On the strength of this, it looks like we will be appearing in George Square
at Hogmanay.

The band taking the stage at Campbeltown on the 21st will be:

Derek Forbes: Simple Minds (bass)
Ian Donaldson: H20 (vocals)
Jim Prime: Deacon Blue (keyboards)
Mick McNeil: Simple Minds (keyboards)
Kirk Brandon: Spear of Destiny (guitar)
Mel Gaynor: David Bowie/Simple Minds (drums)

We're also hoping that Bruce Watson from Big Country will make a guest
appearance.
The set list will be the songs that were hits for us. Don't You Forget about
Me, Dignity, Dream to Sleep, In a Big Country, Waterfront, to name a few.
If there is anything else you would like to know, please ask.
