Traditional Irish Music enthusiasts for this years 'MOKMF'

Postby Ptarmigan » Sun Jul 30, 2006 9:55 pm

'Scad the Beggars' had such a great time at last year's festival that we are delighted to be, once again, heading over from Ulster to Argyll for this, the 12th 'MOKMF'.

This year we are six & we will have three Fiddles, Flute, Harp & Guitar, plus Concertina, Fife, Banjo & Hammered Dulcimer.

We are wondering how many other Irish Music enthusiasts are planning to visit this great wee festival?

Looks like we'll be in the Royal Hotel on Friday night, like last year, so please feel free to come & join us.

P.S. Dear Moderator, any chance of getting a 'Fiddling' Emoticon added! :D

Sorry, couldn't find anything. :?

By the way, I was a bit mystified by your mention of a hammered dulcimer in your first post there. It sounded like violence was involved.

A Google search revealed the following picture tho.

Hey 'gers#1fan', I hope those Cushendall sailors call round to see us ...... & buy us all a pint! :D

By the way, seeing as how your obviously for the gers, you'll enjoy this story.
About twenty years ago, a bunch of us were sitting in a bar in Aberdeen playing Trad Irish music on Fiddles, Whistles & Flutes etc when a bus pulled up outside & we were of course 'delighted' to see about 40 Rangers supporters dandering in, all wearing 'Proud to be a Prod' T Shirts!

Needless to say this made us all just a tad uneasy, but our worst fears were totally unfounded because they appeared to enjoy the music & even requested a few numbers.
Just goes to show, you can never judge a book by it's cover!
Of course, me being an Edinburgh man, you wouldn't catch me shouting for Rangers or Celtic - sorry!

Malky, thanks for that photo - the next best thing.
That is almost identical to my own Hammered Dulcimer, the one which I played at the MOKMF last year & which I'll be bringing over again this year.

Hey Bobbie En Tejas, you said "hammered also means drunk.. its an Irish band..."
Now where in the world did you get that idea Bobbie?
Sure, they are all TT over here!

But truthfully, I did see a bunch of guys in Buncrana, Donegal, drink a bunch of Glaswegians under the table, quite literally, at an All Ireland Fleadh in the early 1980s!
Ah, the good old days! :(

Really looking forward to your SMOKE FREE PUBS though! :D
