Idlewild to headline main concert in the Victoria Hall

Postby IainJ » Sat Apr 15, 2006 7:42 pm

Idlewild have just been confirmed as the headline act at this year’s main concert in the Victoria Hall, Campbeltown.

Recently voted the third best Scottish band (http://www.list.co.uk/fiftybandsmain.html) they will be playing only a limited number of concerts this year with this one probably being the most intimate of the lot. The bands web site can be accessed at http://www.idlewild.co.uk/idlewild.html if you are looking for more info on them.

The support band has also just been confirmed as local band Violent Echo who made a great impression at the recent Peatbog Faeries gig on Feb 25th this year.

More details on this concert and a complete run down of the line – up for this years Festival will be posted over the next few weeks.

Iain.

Would agree Trapper - they are superb and from what WTA says they are excellent LIVE.

Should attract a different audience I would imagine.

Well done Ian J!

Congratulations to all involved in getting Idlewild. Have seen them 4 times and always have been a great band to see live.

Have to say their sound has changed througout the years a lot from the wild punk thrash of Queen of the Wild Teens through to the REMesque sound of the last album.

Horse Face - Hope is Important is a great album, but also enjoyed 100 Broken Windows and The Remote Part too.

I reckon 100 broken windows is thier best album actually. Althoug hope is important is still hoora good, and so is the remote part, particularly the title track with edwin morgan reciting poetry over the top. Cool as f@?".

Ah the good old days - aye he was quite something on stage in the early days.

Last time I saw them was here in Amsterdam in 2002, the night that Bob Fairfoul quit the band so dont think Roddy and co will want to discuss that evening too much.

Just been on their website and if they play a set like they did in their last gig in Glasgow then the gig in the town will be a stormer.

There is no news of this on the MOK Fest website or the Idlewild website....is it a certainty that Idlewild are headlining?

Horse, yup think the organisers have done well to get Idlewild, definitely one of the bigger bands in the country.

Getting them is in my own personal opinion a great stepping stone for attracting other good Scottish bands that are sort of well known likes of Mogwai, Belle and Sebastian etc - bands that are not exactly mainstream but in my opinion deserve to be giving a wider audience and are good for Campbeltown by showing that the music festival is willing to take a gamble and go for non-mainstream acts. Think the committee deserve a big round of applause for doing this.

Actually went to see El Presidente tonight from Glasgow and thought they were superb. Also My Latest Novel from Greenock a few weeks ago, another band not exactly mainstream but worth seeing if you get the chance.
