For 2011 we have decided to give the healthy local running and jogging community a forum of their own!

Howdens 6 race handicap series 2016

Postby DJD » Tue Mar 22, 2016 12:24 pm

Just to start the ball rolling to this years handicap series. The only change to the event format for this year, is the scoring of the points system and is as follows.

The total number of points that will be awarded will be in line with the number that have ran actually ran the race.

ie : if 20 people run, then the points would be 1st - 20 points / 2nd - 19 points / 3rd -18 points and so on. 5 points will also be added to all runners on completion of each race, as an incentive to enter all races.

The reason that we have changed it, is that it holds a less likely chance that there will be a number of runners tying for a podium place at the end of the competition.

All other information regarding and rules entering, can be found on last years "Forum Thread"

The months are as follows and actual dates are tbc closer to the time, due to not clashing with other events in the town.

The first date is confirmed as

April - Sunday 17th
May
June
August
September
October

If interested please see one of the CRC junior coaches and register your name and pay your entrance fee before the cut off date, APRIL 13TH 2016

The entrance fee helps pay for Prizes at the end of the competition and certificate's for all. We look forward to new competitors for this event. Come and see if you can stick out the 6 race challenge over the summer. It's an event that all are equal and have the opportunity to improve their own aims of the challenge ahead, that they set themselves.

Thanks.

Hi All

Just to confirm that this years series will be under way on the following day (see below). It is open to anyone that can complete 2:5km comfortable and is the age of 9 or there about.

Up for grabs will be the Courier Cup as the overall trophy with individual Male and Female cups by Howdens Joinery Company to be held for a year. Also there will prizes for the 1st/2nd/3rd male and female and over all performer chosen by the participants parents.

The handicaps will be set on everyone's PBs if they have ran in this competition before. Anyone one that has not had a recorded time before, can and are welcome to enter as a scratch runner in the first race and then will be given a handicap time for the next race. (They are not eligible to score in the first race).

The 1st of the six race Howdens Handicap Series, will be as follows (subject to change).

Date : Sunday 17th April

Time : 10:30am

Venue : Lussa

Distance : 2.5km

Terrain : Forestry Track.

I will post the start of this race in the form of mapometer web site, closer to the time, after the usual risk assessment is carried out. That is one of the main reasons the races will be subjected to change. We hope to see as many new and old faces as possible for this years challenge. We also look forward to the jnrs runners setting more and more personal records in their 3rd year of competing. All geared towards the xcountry start line in their future.

Thanks

The route has been risk assessed and is looking good. It has the odd pot hole filled with water but a far better surface than the A83 (lol but true.) I have seen a better roads in Africa. (I digress)

Here is the route and starting and finishing place.

http://gb.mapometer.com/running/route_3829626.html

We need some volunteers to help out on the morning, as to fill in the odd job that will make it run smooth.

Finally, this will probably be my last year doing this. So feel free to help the other coaches at keeping this going, so coming forward now, will help them immensely for the future.

See you all Sunday and I hope the weather is good for running.

Thanks.

Well done everybody today, from the runners to the coaches and not forgetting the helpers, all is appreciated, it was the making of a smooth run event.

Well done everyone who put in a great effort whatever the reward you got from your participation. There was a lot of pbs and
lots of improved times from last year. The times speak for themselves. Fitness levels are up, ability is up and most important is that I saw no stress and recovery was quick, which shows your fitness levels. All your involvement in what ever sport you do is showing, as most do more than one sport, ie swimming, running, and football and others things like dancing.

Specialisations at one sport at young age is not the best route to take. (In my opinion, and is food for thought for anyone thinking otherwise.)

Anyway here are the improvements, courtesy of Catherine McLean who quickly worked them out. The first column is times from last year and the other is the Pbs gained which can be seen on FB

Rona McLean...............2:29
Ryan Shields................0:04
Ruairidh Campbell.......1:03
Violet Campbell...........0:23
Oliver Reid...................2:39
Caryn Kerr...................1:22
Claudia Graham..........0:05
Rianne Coffield...........0:27
Emma Millar................0:19
Emily McMurchy.........1:00

PB's
William McLean
Caryn Kerr
Robert Kerr
Kirstie Renton
Rianne Coffield
Emma Millar
Emily Mcmurchy

See you all at Race 2 and again well done to all that ran the race today.

Hi All

The date for the 2nd Howdens Handicap race will be held on Sunday 15th May at Pennygown 10:30. The full information with the route will be posted on here, closer to the time.

We again hope that a good few will and should advance their pbs for the course rather than a pb for the distance as the route has a steady climb challenge.

thanks
