For 2011 we have decided to give the healthy local running and jogging community a forum of their own!

Campbeltown Junior Running Club - Open handicap series 2015

Postby DJD » Thu Jan 22, 2015 3:08 pm

Hi all,

Looking for volunteers for this years handicap series, please get in touch with Fiona Graham if you like to help out in one way or another.

The Courier donated a big Cup for the overall winner last year, which will be the main on going prize, (which is a fantastic cup and prize.) We however are looking for a couple more sponsers to donate a smaller cup prize for a male and a female catogory, chosen by all the parents. ( any idea's welcomed or sponsers welcome).

The main thing for opening this years handicap topic early, is so people can spread the word around to anyone thinking on entering, that has never ran it before, and wants to enter, they can now start to train for it if they think they do not reach the standard that will be needed at the moment.

That standard is,

1 : Must be the minimum of 7 years
2 : Must be able to run a 2.5km in 20min

With training before had it is an target anyone can reach. This is the criteria and we will not accept anyone below this age and anyone entering and saying that they can run this distance and they are found they cannot, then without asking will not be allowed to enter the next race. (We will however see if there is potential in that person to get within the time for the next race).

We like the child to able to do it and not the parent who thinks they can do it.

This event is fun and really boost your childs confidence on completeing the 6 races over various terrains.

Anyway the gate is open to train for it, so go for it. Please pass the word round.

Full details will be put up here shortly, but in the mean time, you can read last years thread.

Thanks

Hi All,

Here are the dates for the Junior Running Club Handicap Open Series 2015.

Venues and Dates ( all Sunday mornings). 10:30am

26th April : Loch Lussa

17th May : Pennygown

28th June : Bellochantuy

23rd Aug. : Westport Beach

20th Sept. : Machrihanish (MOD)

18th Oct. : Campbeltown. (Senior route) with marshals at 2 points.

As far as we know, most of these dates, do not clash with any other events, but if they do, we can be a bit flexible on either side of the date in question. Also there might be a change to the venue at short notice for what ever reason.

Thanks

Here are the Rule for this years Junior Handicap Open Series 2015

It has a slight difference to last year, it is that we are going to add 2 points for all that attend each race

The distance will be 2.5km consisting of out and back route of 1.25km

6 Races, five to count. Scoring slightly different from the adults with the intent to stop big numbers at the start dwindling down to a few.

It will score like this

12 points for the winner, 10 points for second 8 for third and 5 points for all that run which is score the points. This will encourage all to still take part with a chance of winning right up until the end.

3 categories for prizes, which will depend on numbers, towards the end.

Overall winner

1st, 2nd, 3rd, male

1st, 2nd, 3rd, female.

Best improver or effort decided by the parents.

Please feel free to ask any question or concerns you may have. There will be an entry cost of £1.00 per race, per child, which will total £6.00 paid over the course of the year to help towards the cost of refreshments etc.

This is a great event and can be competed and won by anyone that really wants to improve their running over the course of the spring/summer. It will be held at great venues around the area of Kintyre and it will have a presentation night at the end for all that entered.

To help pay for prizes it is £5.00 entrance fee. We now have a sponsors for the first male and female prizes which we hope to purchase good quality cups to have the winners names engraved on it, and that is curtesy of

Howdens Joinery supplies

You can now register with Fiona Graham, Alison Millar, Catherine McLean,

Thanks

Hi All,

here is the details of our first race for "Campbeltown Courier Cup" and now along side that we will have a male / female cup to challenge for, courtesy of Howden's Joinery Co of Campbeltown. Also their will be prizes for 1st 2nd 3rd male/female from the Campbeltown pottery.

Campbeltown Junior Runners Handicap Series 2015

Race 1 of the 6 race Series

Date: Sunday 26th April 2015

Time: 10:30 am

Venue: Loch Lussa

Distance 2.5km

Terrain : Forrest Track

Just to remind all, the true sense of holding the handicaps is mainly focused on fun, secondly it can and will hopefully show everyone's improvement over the coming months. Also for those that have already ran the various venues, can now judge how much they have improved if they have kept up their running over the winter period. Some may see vast improvements some only a little as in seconds, what ever it is, it is not as important as having fun running.

Do not forget to register as you will not score at the first race. ( thankyou )

I will again put up the route closer to the time.

Thanks

Hi All,

We like to confirm that the 2nd race of this years handicap series is as below.

Pennygowan Puffer

Date : Sunday 17th July 2015

Time : 10:30am

Venue : Pennygowan

Distance : 2.5k.

Terraine : Forrest Track.

Hopefully the weather is on our side, and if so, then just like Lussa, we hope see great improvements on your personal best for this course. However if one does not and it could be for many reasons, do not worry about it, just as long as you did your best and enjoyed the knowledge that you can run the distance with ease, and that is an achievement in itself, rather than time.

See you all there, and it's the same starting and finishing point as in 2014. Any questions regarding what ever see Fiona, Alsion and Catherine.

Any newcomers, please contact anyone above

Thanks

Well done everyone that ran the 3rd Race at Bellochantuy. I have added last years times so you can compare them and let you be the judge on your own performance, as that is all that counts in running, as for sometimes you cannot be your best everytime you run.

Hi all,

Just to confirm what has been put on FB, ref the next handicap.

Race 4 "Westport Wheezer" 2015

Venue: Westport Beach.

Date 23rd August 2015

Time: 10:30

Distance: 2.5km

Terrain: Sand.

There was a concern as to the stones on the beach, luckily the stony area will not affect our race as our race falls short of that area.

See you all Sunday, and hopefully the weather will be in our favour, cool with no wind or rain.

Thanks

Hi All,

With a big thanks to the MACC, we have permission to run our 5th Handicap Race of Series 2 at the base.

The details are as follows.

"The Machrihanish Mirage"

Race 5

Venue: Machrihanish (MOD) MACC

Date: Sunday 20th September 2015

Time 10:00am

Distance: 2.5Km

Terrain: Tarmac

We will meet at 09:30hrs just inside the gate and we will escort everyone in a convoy style. Parking is not a problem, but like everything good about car sharing, that would be the best option.

Hope to see as many as we have had over the recent months and like all handicaps, all new runners are welcomed, just notify Fiona or Alison on your intention to come.

please note the change of time, due to the footballers sponsored walk.

Thanks.
