Campbeltown JRC Xcountry

Postby DJD » Mon Nov 10, 2014 1:38 pm

Hi All

We thought it would be better if we started a new topic ref our xcountry. The first race is this comming Sunday at 10:30 at the Meadows.

We will intend to try and get different venues each month as to make the event more interesting and sometimes challenging than keep every race at the meadows.

Dates for each race will be published as soon as a window of availibilty becomes apparent within that month.

It will be run on the bases as mentioned beore and that is under the handicap sports system timimg. Scoring will be as mentioned on the other thread.

It is open to all none members that are in P4/ P5/P6 and above. Please let Fiona Graham or Alison Millar that you would like to take part, or pm me on this site.

Thanks

Hi All,

It has been pointed out to myself, that we have already had a competition on the handicap base's and would it be better to just have a straight forward race competition. Which I have pondered over and have come to the decision that it is the better of the two idea's.

So the format now will be as follows.

The xcountry series will consist of 5 races over the winter period on a monthly base's and is a Open competition.

16th November......Meadows 10:30am.
December
January
February
March

Dates to be announced

Venues will be announced nearer the time, as we hope to race at different points around Campbeltown.

Distances will be 1250 metres / 2500 metres depending on school class age. P7 and under 1250m - S1/S6 2500 metres.

Competition Categories.

Club runners P3 and under

P4/P5

P6/P7

S1/S6 (handicap system) due to age ability.

All runners will set of together with the exception on the S1/S6 runners they will set off in their sports handicap times.

Scoring will be as Follows

The numbers in the race category, will dictate how points are awarded ( example) 10 runners,- 1st place gets - 10pts and so on. ( Male /Female )

There will be Male and Female placings in each category.

Medals awarded after the 5 races, will be as follows 1st 2nd 3rd in each category.

I am now confident we are there, even if you's are not ( lol ). Feel free to ask any question if need too.

Thanks.

Well done to all that ran in the first race of this xcountry series 2014/2015. It was a glorious morning, perfect for running, and the taking of photos, which look great on Junior running club FB page.

Great to see the younger fraternity excel at running the 1250 metres compared to only 7 months when they just about manage 500 metres. Also the older ones that are now going from strength to strength in their running challenges. You are all certainly on the right track, to be able to compete up the road in years to come.

Thanks to all the parents would marshalled along a wet muddy course, making sure everyone was okay as they pursued the xcountry challenge ahead of them.

Here are the results, remember it's is more of a personal aim for one self rather than your final position and of course the fun of it. It's the future you are all aiming for.

Hi all

Here is the route for this coming Sunday xcountry race.

Race 2

Venue : Campbeltown Grammar School

Date Sunday 14th December 2014

Time 10:30 ( warm up )

Start 10:40

Distance 1250m/2500m

The meet will be conducted the same as last time, for any newbie's it will be explained on the day about the start and finishing procedure.

Fiona Graham and Alison Millar, is in overall charge, and would like as many helpers as possible to Marshall and to help at the finish line. Which I know all parents respond well to the call as before.

The route is virtually in view for all to see and enjoy and encourage all that run in the event. The route has a good hill in it to be negotiated at least once on the first lap and half on the second. It is certainly not beyond anyone as we have all trained on it and ran up it many times, so we are confident you all will take it in your stride.

Here is the route for you to look at and help in setting the course up as close to it as possible. Take a print of it, would be a good idea.

http://www.mapometer.com/running/route_3979750.html

Sorry I cannot make this one due to us being up the road. But I can convey we as a Jnr club are on the right tracks for competing up the road in the future. We are especially strong on numbers on the girls side and if we go from strength to strength on doing xcountry and hopefully in a fair few years time, we want to see a team or two from Campbeltown competing in the West District xcountry events. The boys, we are sure will easily get a team together and compete too.

All looking good for the future. Have a good run all.

Thanks

Hi All,

Just waiting on confirmation of the next xcountry route, we can however confirm the time and date. it is at 10:30am on Sunday the 18th January 2015.

We hope to hold it up at Creggan Hills taking in part of the old "January Burner" that the seniors used to run. It is a wet and tiring course but has it good side. Once the continuing slope is overcome then it's is down hill from there.

We will put the route up later on in the week.

Have a look at this, and this why xcountry has been important to us as a Junior running club and it will continue to be so in the future.

Thanks.

Hi all,

Here is the proposed route, yet to be confirm. http://www.mapometer.com/running/route_3996428

It is a good old tough route, which everyone can run it at a sensible pace. The only difference is that it is 1600m as opposed to the standard 1250 metres. The reason being is that it is the minimum we can squeeze out of the area.

If you feel it is beyond you then do not turn up and wait for the next race.

It is wet and muddy in some places, and if parents are planning to help out at each junction then you are advised to wear wellingtons. Also it is a good idea to have a set of good clean gear for your child to change into at the clean area. Also have immediate warm clothing (top) at the end to be put on for the wee walk back to the clean area. I also suggest your child runs in shorts. That way they can have a clean track suit bottom to be put on later, which will add to their warmth. Hat and gloves is a must.

A good size plastic bag for your running shoes and for the odd dirty clothing top would be another idea, which can be thrown into the boot of your car.

There will be soup after to warm all you guys up at the clean area.

Any questions or concerns feel free to get in touch with a us. Bt the way parking should not be a problem.

Thanks.

Hi All,

brilliant effort by everyone on yesterdays cross country run up at the creggan hills. The weather was with us for once and it certainly was a day for racing. You can certainly be proud of yourselves, in the knowing you ran a tough course yesterday.

The terrain was one of the hardest and most challenging you have encountered as to date, and in my opinion is one of the best areas to race and train on (winter). It has everything a runners needs to build on over the winter period. Certainly the best course in Kintyre.

Thanks goes to Adam Armour who has allowed us to run on and also for keeping that area in that great condition.

here are you times for the 3rd Xcountry race Jan 18th 2015.

Gregor Campbell...............7:35
Andrew Renton.................8:01
Euan Charlwood................8:37
Ruairidh Campbell.............8:50
Ryan Sheilds....................9:00
William McLean................9:34
Violet Campbell................9:44
Iona Renton....................10:26
Josh Arkell.....................10:35
Oliver Reid.....................10:59
Sean Charlwood...............11:01
Cary Kerr.......................11:25
Max Graham...................11:27
Kirsty Renton..................11:42
Sophie Renton.................11:55
Claudia Graham...............11:57
Annabel Semple...............13:46
Rianne Coffeild................13:48
Hannah Millar..................14:31
Emma Millar....................14:34
Emily McMurchy................21:10

Douglas McMurchy..............11:12 (ran by himself)

2 miles
Cameron Campbell................14:10 (first Lap 7:00)
Callum Cook........................20:54 (first lap 9:53)

Well done on the guys (Josh and Euan ) who both lost a shoe to the condition, and carried on.

Just like to add to those that think they had a bad run, just put it down to one of them days.

Here are the results from Sundays xcountry race. They have already been placed on FB earlier in the week. Well done to all that ran the race. We have one to go which will be run on the 29th March at the Meadows in conjunction with the Clubs annual xcountry race for all the schools.

Just while I am on here and a bit of advance information, we have decided to move the distance up to 2km for next years xcountry. The reason being is, you the Jnr club members have made great progress in tackling xcountry running and that we think you need that extra distance to improve your ability, to hopefully one day get you ready to go and compete up the road at the xcountry events.

Results.

Euan Charlwood..........5:45
Josh Arkell...................5:52
Ryan Shields...............6:07
Callum Cook...............6:16
Douglas McMurchy.....6:35
William McLean..........6:46

Max Graham...............6:52

Niamh McEachran......7:10
Caryn Kerr..................7:11

Rianne Coffield..........7:34
Sophie Renton...........8:12
Jennifer Wylie............8:35

Hi all,

September is nearly upon us which is the start of the xcountry season as in training, so therefore the older section on a Tuesday and some Saturday mornings (dates will be made aware on the Tuesday) will start their base training geared towards that.

This time next year we hope to have our first male junior xcountry team that would compete in the West District Relays and also as individuals if old enough. With the right training and effort in that, we are confident we can compete against the bigger clubs with the small handful of runners that we have available.

The younger club members will also get a organised local xcountry race each month to add to their running experience over the course of the winter.

Just for parents information The Scottish Schools Athletics Association have a primary xcountry event and a road relay every year for P6/P7, male/ female. For your child to enter it must come from the School it's self. More info can be obtained from their web site.

We shall post any information as regards races being held up the road for anyone interested over the course of the winter.
