Jog Scotland's away trip for 2012 is the Edinburgh half with a twist .....watch this space . :D

What is Rock ‘n’ Roll half ?

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series is the ‘World’s Largest Running Series’ with more than 500,000 people taking part in 26 North American cities each year. The series enjoys great appeal for the destination athlete, tremendous local support and has firmly established itself as a dynamic running platform.

What started as a simple idea in 1998—the idea of making running fun– soon transformed the U.S. running landscape entirely by infusing music with running. Suddenly, the music every mile and party-like atmosphere made long distance running approachable and more and more people participated in something they had never dreamed they could do – run a marathon. The charity aspect proliferated participation, leading to more than $235 million dollars raised for participating charities.

Today, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series continues to celebrate the run and not just the finish, featuring live bands along the course, cheer teams and entertaining water stations. The outdoor festival encapsulates cities in their entirety and culminates with a finish line festival featuring some of the best music acts around. Past performers include the Goo Goo Dolls, Counting Crows, Chris Isaak, Bret Michaels and Sugar Ray.

And the beat goes on… we’re excited to announce the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series is going global in 2012! Next stop: Edinburgh and Madrid.

I believe this is going to be a classic race to be part of ..roll on .... :D

Looks fun, heard a few people on about it. Is there an official website? I did a search and all I could find was charities who want you to run it for them.

Looks like it will be fun. From what I can see so far the only confirmed act are the Red Hot Chilli Pipers.
4th Gen was saying the other night he isn't running just now so I thought he should apply for a "Johnny Rocks" place at one of the miles :D

It’s hard to believe 2 weeks have passed since the latest "joggies on tour" weekend, and what a good one it was.
Our wonderful chauffeur from the Newcastle trip again offered his services as bus driver despite all the nonsense of lost phones and purses on the last trip.
Thanks Ian, it certainly helps the stress levels on the way there, and the party atmosphere on the way back to have our valued driver in tow.
We set off for Edinburgh on Saturday morning and after checking into our rooms it was off to Holyrood Park to the Expo which was being held the day prior to the race. The Edinburgh Run followed the American model of the run almost insisting that runners collect their race pack the day before.
We all had no problems checking in, with one pair even managing to share the photo id that was required to pick up your number  . The event seemed really quiet by the time we got there mid afternoon but with a free show from The Red Hot Chilli Pipers early in the day, we probably missed the crowds.
We had a wander round the stalls where the bandana stand certainly benefited from a visit from The Wee Toon Runners with others asking to join our gang for the large discounts being wangled!
We then headed off for our Pasta Dinner, one glass of vino only, and back to the hotel to decorate ourselves in our rock n roll theme with our fake tattoos!!
Sunday was a lovely sunny but cool morning and we headed back to Holyrood Park for the run.
Final toilet stops were a long queue for some and a trip behind the gorse bushes for others  then it was off to our separate corrals for the 9am start.
The girls further to the front said there wasn’t a great atmosphere at the start but by the time it came to the turn of the slower runners in the final sections the noise levels were up.
The rock n roll theme means there is a band playing at every mile which helped the fun factor of the day, though due to location the bands weren't always exactly at the mile markers.
The first 5k had us heading out of Holyrood Park towards Leith and the Firth of Forth but what a lovely day and a lovely part of the route along the promenade to Portobello.
Then to one of the first long slow climbs from Portobello back towards Arthurs Seat.
After passing very close to the finish at Holyrood the course veered back towards the city centre through the Cowgate and the Grassmarket. It was then through the Meadows, past the University, over the Royal Mile and down the mound towards Princess Street before the final climb back onto Canongate and downhill all the way to Holyrood Park again.
This is an event I think all of us would consider doing again, there were a few tricky hills but mostly it was a really nice scenic route. I’m also quite sure this is an event which will grow in popularity over the next few years.
Well done ladies another weekend of lots of laughs, good memories and sore legs!
