I throughly enjoyed my day out at Gigha yesterday, perfect weather and great company :D

Thanks Rab and Fiona, I'm in great order about how my run went yesterday :D I just stuck to my plan of taking the first mile easy and then tried to keep an even pace throughout the race.

Great running from everyone yesterday, good to see so many locals on the podium :D

Nice to catch up with you yesterday Fiona ..... see you next week at Crinan :D

just to add to the debate which l think is always healthy to have about running.

Being in amongst it all in my opinion is all part of the joy and the learning curve as one progresses towards their goal in the field of running.

l honestly don't think they would be overwhelemed, but the best voice on this would be the runners themsleves, although what you have mentioned Fiona has a part to play looking from a different angle, than mine.

As the old saying keeps coming back "what is good for one runner might not be good for another"

with you on the what suits one doesnt suit another djd, we are all funny creatures and have our own wee likes and dislikes that is what makes us all the unique individuals we are - :?

For me the first mile is a settling in time and is always a learning curve for those not used to events so I feel why put more pressure where not needed - then I am a "nurture" style of person - always have been - always worrying about others - always will. On the other hand I can totally see your point of view too djd - get in amongst the thick of it and learn - nothing wrong with that either - just different ways of looking at things which will depend on who you are looking at.

I think almost all of the female runners in the 5k race yesterday were our JSC girls - so think the way it lay yesterday for me as one of their jogleaders was great to boost their confidence and morale on a tough day for a run with the heat and wind but as you rightly said djd, it is for them to comment on themselves and we can ask them to feedback to the Gigha organisers.

All in all a great day had by one and all even tho my time was slower than last year enjoyed the character building part of this race - bloody tough wasn't it!!!!

Fab day out yesterday, and would tend to agree the 5k race was a great idea and good to see so many CRC and JSC competitors on the island :D

Well done to all winners (runners, cyclists and walkers) but especially Jennifer, I just wish I had her "keep calm" attitude at the start of a race, I don't think I will ever learn to pace myself for the first few miles no matter what "virtual hector" is telling me. Felt great for the first 4 miles until the turning point and hills just killed me, you know how I love hills, and by the time I was at mile 8 I felt awful but Scott McB kept me going til the end.

Note to self: Pay more attention to "virtual Hector"

Dont be too sore on yourself katfer many of us were the same, the wind in your back on the first four miles made the faster pace seem deceptively easy - not so easy onthe turn when running into it. :( It was the same last year :( this is what makes it so good

Your inside knowledge of your own group,Fiona, will far out outweigh mine so I agree on most of your thinking behind your post.

Now that there is going to be a open 5k every year (which was one of the things that raised my eyebrow as l did not know it was a open race). The race will attract other runners that are are far more equipt and are used to the atmosphere, will produce an even faster start than the 11.2 runners, and where will that feeling leave them, if its the case.

Just a point for thought, as you bring along your next enthusiastic runners for Gigha's 2012 run.

Yes it was a cracking day for all.

Tanya and her friends for me was my star or should l say saviour,my kids just wanted to be with them. (lol).Rab pass my thanks on to her again.

Thoroughly enjoyed Saturday, thank you Gigha, - was a brilliant day out and really enjoyed running the race, tremendous community atmosphere and Gigha always manages to have a nice sunny day :D

Great to see so many Campbeltown JS and CRC runners taking part in the races and winning too - very well done! Was really nice to have everyone mingling and socialising at the start and finish over some nice food/drink or 5 pints... That is the best bit for me anyday.

Everyone ran really well so well done to everyone! Katfer, you did great - remember, you just didn't have your soreen  Jennifer R, I am nowhere near as fast as you but I am trying to copy your race strategy - steady, controlled and calm - well done, it seems to produce great results!

Ags wrote:I will be interested to hear why you were so against the 5k DJD but absolutely agree that it would be really good (particularly for morale) all runners setting off together next year?
It was also good to know that you are able to run 5k and then cycle the 11.2......maybe a swim back to Tayinloan included next year

Yes 5k was great addition this year.... Now a triathlon for the Gigha Challenge 2012 - you've really got me thinking Ags ;-)

Och the soreen, that would it be it:) I'll try that this weekend, lol.

Yip, I for one should take a leaf out of Jennifer's race tactics book.

Well done everyone on Saturday! Great to see so many people from Campbeltown over.

First competitive race at distance and burnt out big time. Feeling good to about mile 9 then got slower and in mile 10 was goosed! Felt the heat too. Anyway, all an experience and well done to EVERYONE and thanks to the organisers!
