Photo - which School ?

Postby odds » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:29 am

Can anyone tell me where this was taken, name of school, what road it was taken on etc. As far as I remember it was outside a Primary School that my younger brother went to and it was around 1973/74. The picture is my father, and cousins who had come to visit us at RAF Machrihanish. I can't seem to find the same location on Google maps.

Thanks
Pete.

It was the only Catholic school in town. It closed last year and the Pupils now go to one of the other Primary schools in the area

The google car did not go up that stretch of road, but centre of photo, front right of last black car was the area pic was taken. As Bill stated it was the wee grammer in our days with the big grammer just across the road.

Next time i am in town I'll take some pics further back for you.

Thanks for the replies, I would never have got the name of the school. I'll have to have a walk up there when I'm up there in August.

In the late fifties Miss Galbraith taught French down there and Mr Smith taught Maths.

Did Miss Galbraith become Mrs Togneri and was Mr Smith really Batman?

Thanks, petewick. Of course it was Miss Martindale, I remember now. She broke a few schoolboy hearts when she married Mr Togneri. We all thought that she was waiting for one of us!

Miss Martindale never taught in the "wee Grammar" building. She resided on the first floor of the main building, midway between John McKerral (Geography) and Bob Crerar (French & German).

WC1 - Thank you. What a memory you have. As I read your post, I remembered. I'm afraid my memories are a bit jumbled now - it all seems so long ago.
