Freshly cooked seafood now available at the Old Quay

It's always nice to see new and innovative businesses open in Campbeltown and it's great that as a seaside town locals and visitors now have the opportunity to sample some of the seafood caught locally as Prawn on the Pier opened their new business at the head of the quay yesterday.

The new business, owned by local man Hughie McAllister, will be open 7 days a week from 10am until early evening (depending on the weather) and aims to allow you to sample seafood fresh from the creel! Business was so good on the first day that Hughie had to go out last night and catch more seafood for today - you can't get much fresher than that!

Hughie, as many will know featured on the Hairy Bikers episde that appeared on BBC in September 2009 showing hosts and chefs Simon King and Dave Myers taking to the sea with Hughie and his son to catch some local produce. We covered this on the forum at viewtopic.php?f=12&t=7623&start=15

Below is a photo of the prawns the celeb chefs used during their show - straight from Hughie's boat!

If you visit please mentioned you read the news on the Kintyre Forum!

Best wishes to Hughie and his family on their new business! PS - The prawn salad was beautiful! 8)

Look forward to trying this out (I've a feeling I could become a regular)! But isn't that the Old Quay, not the New?

Well spotted WC! I was looking, wondering where I wrote New Quay but it was the thread title! Apologies, an oversight on my part.

Great addition for Campbeltown and can't wait to try it out. Just what the town needs. I hate Oban's self professed Seefood Capital of Scotland when places like Tarbert are more fitting! (even Campbeltown!)

I had friends visiting from Yorkshire just previous, and they loved the town but missed the seafood stalls like you get in Scarbourough & Whitby- I've sent them this article for a read  - good luck with the venture!! 8)
