Hello,
My name is Damian Downie and I am one of the administrators of the Downie (Downey) Family Tree DNA Project. The project is looking to pay (we are not advertising) for the DNA testing of a male Downie who can trace their ancestory back in the Campbeltown/Kintyre area. In particular one who can trace their family name back to a Mcildownie, Mcildounie or Mcildonie (or similar). The reason for the request is that Campbeltown/Kintyre area appears to be the one place that all forms of the names existed. A google map has been created that shows the Downie name changes and locations for Argyll http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie ... 07&t=h&z=8
So far the results have been interesting with two Downies having the Ui Niall DNA signature. A recent study conducted at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, found that a striking percentage of men in Ireland (and quite a few in Scotland) share the same Y chromosome, suggesting that the 5th-century warlord known as "Niall of the Nine Hostages" may be the ancestor of one in 12 Irishmen. Niall established a dynasty of powerful chieftains that dominated the island for six centuries (FTDNA).
The test is just a mouth swab and it is a great way to find out about your families past. If you are interested please send me an email at damiandowniednaproject@gmail.com or have a look at the project site at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/...ction=yresults .
Regards,
Damian Downie
