Does anyone have access to these or know where they can be found online?

Charles Mclean died 10th October 1903 at Poorhouse, Fisher Row.
His death certificate tells us that he was born in Ireland, but doesn't say where.
Ireland is quite a big place to search for someone, and the information is fragmented.
It is just possible that the poor house register would give more information.
Any ideas?

I don't think the registers are online. I've looked in the past. My 3rd great grandmother, Margaret (Walker) McIntyre died in the Campbeltown poorhouse in 1871.

That s a pity as its a long way to the archive.

Some time ago I found a picture of a pauper's badge at Campbeltown museum.
Paupers were expected to beg for their keep as well as work.

Seems odd to us, but it worked for them. The alternative was starving at the end of a life of hard work.

Yes, it is a bit of a trek from California, too.
It looks like they might have something for your timeframe. I can't tell if "181922-68" would cover my 1871. But I'm not likely to get to Scotland any time soon.

It would be so nice to see other census years, but that is very interesting.

Charles lived at 3 wide Close with his wife flora and two grandchildren in 1891. He is described as a labourer, so he may have still been working. Flora died in the poorhouse in 1889, so they were probably both admitted in the intervening time.

Were your McIntyre's from Ireland or Kintyre?

Maybe a forum user working on their own family will be visiting the archive sometime soon???

I've only been able to trace my McLeans and McIntyres back within Argyll to 1808 and 1826.

It is not much further back than you have got, but maybe there is something there.

I think a search online would find the full document.

Charles McLean was born 1826 or thereabout. His family came over from Ireland about 1838.

Wow, that's cool/disturbing to see. I hope she didn't have to work or beg; she was 80 when she died, but she may have been part of the system for a rather long time.
Funny, that the next page mentions my Dad's step-great uncle, Robert Robertson, who did much better for himself.

I messaged the archives back on Dec 14 asking if they had any records that might cover my ggg grandmother at the poorhouse. Got an auto response on Dec 15, but haven't heard anything.

I had a reply from the archive today. The poorhouse register only goes back to 1920.
Prior to that, minutes of the parochial board might take quite a lot of searching.

I finally got a response too. The document they attached listed
General Register of Poor, Nos. 601 – 1300 for 1869 – 1890
General Register of Poor, Nos. 1301 - 1598 for 1890 – 1899
General Register of Poor, Nos. 1601 - 2098 for 1898 – 1912
It seems like one of those would cover your people?

The price to have them search through the records is a little high though.

Searching is expensive, as with good information it shouldn't take long.
Maybe someone who lives nearby and is going to look for something else will help?

Peter McNeil of Gigha was governor of the poorhouse in both the 1881 and 1801 census.

I have found some of my McGrath/McGraw ancestors on here. so if they wee from antrim may help. Its a facebook group
