Looking for Clementina McAlister (nee McLean)

Postby hdadiotis » Mon Dec 04, 2017 3:50 am

Can anyone help me locate the burial site of my gt gt grandmother Clementina McAlister (nee McLean). She was the widow of Duncan McAlister. She died in 1871 at Bealachroy, Kilcalmonell. Does anyone know what the closest burial sites would be to that location? Any help woul dbe most appreciated.

Do you know when her husband Duncan died?
There is a stone in Clachan Old Cemetery for a Duncan McAlister erected 1859. http://www.ralstongenealogy.com/clachanold.php

If that is possibly her husband, she would probably have been buried with him. Her name is not on the stone as far as I can see, but family may not have been able to pay for inscription.

I had a look at the 1851 Census: although it states that Duncan was born in Islay, his mother appears to have been born in Killean, so Killean Cemetery is another possibility ... there are a few McAlisters buried there too.

Thanks for your suggestions! No I don't know when Duncan died but I can find no registered death so I am thinking he died between 1851 and 1855 when death registration became required. Duncan and Clementina had a son Duncan in 1852, but by the 1861 census Clementina was listed as the head of the household. In the 1851 census Duncan lists his age as 30 years so that would make him only about 34 or 35 in 1855. The stone erected in 1859 seems to fit that time frame. Do you have a copy of the image? Is there anything else on the stone? I will also try to check the Killean clue. Of course there is a lot of assumption involved in this theory.

Thanks
Helen

Hi Ian

Some thing isn't quite right there!
