McIntyres migration--Scotland to County Mayo?

Postby RetiredPeddler » Wed Jun 21, 2017 10:29 pm

Hello, just joined the forum. Very impressive community.
I reside in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA (current temperature 45.5 degrees C) and 7 hours earlier than you.
I have been researching my family history and have stalled at around 1840 in Burrishoole, County Mayo.
Great Grandfather James McIntyre born around 1840 in Mayo. Visited there in 2016. Found only one McIntyre in all of Mayo.
Does anyone know if McIntyres migrated from Kintyre (or elsewhere in Scotland) to Mayo?
Are there many McIntyres currently living in Kintyre?
Any suggestions, online resources, etc. would be very much appreciated.
Thank you. Tom McIntyre.

This may not help, but the 1901 census for Mayo is interesting and searchable
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
There are no McIntyre's in earlier censuses, but I believe that some the documents were destroyed by fire.

For Kintyre try freecen https://www.freecen.org.uk/
Not every census is on there yet.
In 1841 there were a lot of McIntyre's in Campbeltown.
It's worth thinking about possible migration routes and the reasons for it.
I too have followed a line to/from Ireland, but so far have lost it about 1800, so good luck.
