My mother Kate Kerr born Drumlembel 1923, her mother was also Kate but not sure her maiden name. He dad, Alexander Ker born 1890/95 died 1940/5. He was a miner and a green keeper. He was injured in WW1.

My dad, William MacConnachie born 1923, High Dalreoch Farm. His dad also William MacConnachie was previously a tenant farmer on the Duke of Argyle estate. His mother's maiden name Catharine Douglas born around 1900, her father was Will Douglas who owned a few farms and fishing boats and I think a hotel.

Does anyone have any information on any of them

Hello, Fiona.

I hope the following will be of interest to you.

First, I searched for Katie Kerr's mother to find out her maiden name.

There is a headstone in Kilkerran cemetery which I think is the family stone:

Alexander Kerr, died 1941 age 49
Catherine Thomson, died 1950, age 53
Jean Kerr, died 1986

You can get an image of the headstone - free - via the Ralston Genealogy website. Here's the link.

http://www.ralstongenealogy.com/personquery4.php

What I did was to look for Alexander Kerr and then searched for other people with the same headstone photo reference number in Kilkerran cemetery.

Of course, it may be an entirely difference Alexander Kerr!

If this is the correct Alexander and Catherine, then you should be able to go on to the Scotland's People website and view their marriage. The image will give the name of both sets of parents. Also, you should be able to search for the registration of her death, which will confirm - hopefully - that she was married to Alexander, as well as the name of her parents.

The Catherine Thomson buried in the same plot at Alexander Kerr in Kilkerran cemetery was 53 when she passed away, giving a date of birth of c1897.

I searched for her in the census records and found two possible matches. Both are aged three. Both live in Drumlemble and both are the daughters of miners!

Perhaps family names may give a clue as to which of the two Catherines is your grandmother.

1901 census

Drumlemble Village - house 1

James Thomson, head, 23, coal miner, hewer, b Campbeltown
Janet Thomson, wife, 27, b Campbeltown
Catherine Thomson, daughter, 3, b Campbeltown

Drumlemble

Malcolm Thomson, head, 34, coal miner, b Southend
Catherine Thomson, wife, 36, b Campbeltown
Donald Thomson, son, 15 coal miner
Hugh Thomson, son, 13
Jane Thomson, dau, 6
Catherine Thomson, dau, 3
Malcolm Thomson, son, 8 months

In my previous post, I suggested that you may wish to look at the image for Catherine Kerr, nee Thomson's, death registration on Scotland's People (you will have to buy credits). The record should name Catherine's parents.

Daniel Kerr - father of Alexander Kerr - was born in Coalhill, Campbeltown, on 21 February 1855 - son of James Kerr, coal miner, and Mary McKillop,

James and Mary's marriage was registered in Campbeltown in 1845.

Hello Fiona,
My grandfather was Andrew Kerr (1896 to 16-5-1982) he was your grandfathers younger brother as recorded on Shona's 1901 "Kerr" census.
Alexander Kerr (19-5-1891 to 20-1-1941) married Catherine Revie Thomson (abt 1897 to 25-11-1950) on 23-2-1923 in Campbeltown. Alexander was also known as Saunders Kerr. He was injured in WW1 but I have not been able to find his service record.
Catherine was the daughter of Malcom Thomson and Catherine Anderson as listed in Shona's 1901 "Thomson" census.
I would be interested to know if Alexander and Catherine had more than 2 daughters but I'll send you a PM and perhaps we can share some more information.
