Mrs. Blacks Land :

Postby Iain » Sat Jul 26, 2014 11:58 am

Hi All !
Does anyone have the e-mail co-ordinates of the office that handles the Campbeltown Archives; where I can write and ask for details about addresses containing ‘Land.’
Such as ‘Fleming’s Land’ on the High Street and 'Ferguson’s Land’ etc.

I’ve just stumbled over another one in the 1881 census where my 3xG was living at “Mrs. Blacks Land.’
We’ve already had a couple of threads dealing indirectly with the subject and Emdee mentioned that ‘Land’ was the word used for Building.
As most of the Blacks originated from Rathlin Island and were mostly fishermen…, I doubt very much if they’d be rich enough to have bought a building !

Unless of course, any family name was used to name a building…, like naming a ship or a road.

Thanks in advance…, Iain.
