Cemetery in Bellachroy Glen

Postby jonquest » Tue Sep 17, 2013 10:33 pm

When I was in Kintyre last Spring, I talked to a man who lives right off the A83 at Bellachroy Glen, and he told me there are remnants of an old cemetery on the south side of the glen. He told us we probably wouldn't be able to find it with all of the undergrowth, and he was right. My wife and I couldn't locate it. It may be completely overgrown.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about this cemetery or has seen it? The settlement around there - Brantian - went out of existence in the 1850s as far as I understand now, but Brantian is where ancestors of mine in the Stalker line were recorded living in the late 1700s to mid 1820s.

Thanks all,

Tim

This is what you are after. It's also called the Kilmichael burial ground.

Thank you, Shona. This is immensely helpful. And these links are great resources. I'm sorry I didn't post back much sooner. Do you know much about the Stalker lines from Kilcalmonell/Kilberry? It seems most of the research I've found is related to those families from Killean/Kilchenzie. I'm looking at a group of Stalkers who lived at a place called Torchaonachan between roughly 1798 and 1815. On my GG grandfather's first marriage record in 1814 it says he is from the parish Kilcalmonell.

Thanks again.

The Stalkers/McStockairs have stumped me, I'm afraid. I haven't been able to track them with any certainty. Boo!
