Angus Taylor descendants

Postby Alinebrown » Wed Jul 03, 2013 5:38 pm

Just joined yesterday, and getting my feet wet, hope I'm in the right place to post this. I have just discovered that I may be a descendant of Angus Taylor who married Florence Thomson, and died 1796, is buried in Keil cemetery. If anyone has any information about him, it would help my brick wall. I specifically want to know if he had any daughters, in addition to his sons. Thank you for reading my post.

Thanks so much for the information Iain, still have not been able to verify that the Angus Taylor with the sons, (Angus Jr being one of them) is the same one as my ancestor, all I have is my 4ggrandmother's name is Flory Taylor, born 1774, and her father was Angus all from Southend. I 'm beginning to think there were two Angus Taylors in Southend at the same time, one having sons and one having daughters :? I am visiting the area next year, and would love to have an ancestor's gravesite to visit. Where is the newspaper article about the Taylors? Thanks again for your response.

On my 4ggmother's OPR it has daughter of Angus Taylor of "Achroy" Southend, does anyone know where Achroy is, I can't find it on any map

Hi Aline..., I’m really pushed for time !
I’m darned if I could find the newspaper report again; nonetheless, I did find another tree with the 3 images. (which I’ve since PM’d you) Looks as if someone’s beaten you to that visit ! Lol ! There’s even a photo of the headstone.
(note... As you have already surfed the Ralston site where you are entitled to receive images free of charge, you will be able to compare the two stones to see if they are the same family)

What I’m trying to say is that I’ve not the time to verify if these 3 images are correct..., if they're not the same person I’ll look again for the newspaper.

Good luck..., Iain.

The only ref I can find to Achroy is in a 1904 book on the Clan Donald.

In 1669 Ranald resigned his lands in favour of
Archibald, Earl of Argyll. These were a part of
the lands of St Ninian's, namely, Machereoch and
Gartnacopag, Knonkmurrill, Kilnosuchan, Blastil
and Edwin, Penlachna and Isle of Sanda, Drimore,
Penniseirack, Achroy, Balligriggan all in Kintyre.
The Earl, " that he may put an obligation on the
said Ranald Macdonald and his heirs in all time,"
dispones to him in feu the same lands. Ranald
married Anne, daughter of Sir Dougald Stewart,
and sister of James, 1st Earl of Bute.

Thanks Shona, so it looks like it actually was a place, just a long time ago maybe.

This is from Angus McKerral's book, Kintyre in the 17th Century.

McIntaylour, Taylor
- John, son of Gilbert, witness to sasine of St Ninian's Lands, 1620
- Duncan, tenant in Achnaglach, 1651
- Lachlan, tacksman in Remulichtrach in Glenbreckrie, 1678
- Lachlan involved in the Atholl raids at Macharioch, 1685
- Catherine, spouse to John McEachran in Killocra, 1687
- Neil, tenant of Knockantimore, 1691
- Janet, spouse to Neil McEachran om Kilellan, 1768
- Lachlan, tenant in Eden, Southend, 1771
- Lachlan, probably same, Blasthill, 1779
- Lachlan, flax spinner in Campbletown, died 1794, aged 63, buried in Kilkerran - wife Mary McIsaac, ons, Neil and Lachlan, of whom Neil carried on the flax-spinning business. Neil's son, James, tenant of the Argyll Hotel, Southend
- Lachlan, tenant in Sanda, about 1830

The pre-1765 OPRs for Southend parish were destroyed when there was a fire in the study of the minister.

Such a tragedy when old records are destroyed, so it's not likely that the registrar's office in Campbeltown would have any old records not already available online?

When it cones to BMD records, all that is available should be on Scotland's People and Family Search.
